POSITION TITLE: Director, Catering, Conventions & Events

SUPERVISES: Manager, Banquets Operations, Convention Services Manager, Catering & Conventions Admin Assistant


Direct the day-to-day activities of the catering, convention, and events team. Establish and execute strategic direction for the banquet and convention business for the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction.


Ø Establish and endorse the business objectives, ethics, and values of Caesars Entertainment in accordance with the Code of Commitment and Mission, Vision and Values

Ø Act as key leader to the Banquet and Convention Services teams, and is responsible for the overall success of the department

Ø Develop, implement, and monitor budget, annual forecast, market and business plan, capital budget, expense control, incremental revenue tracking and group monthly forecast

Ø Consistently review/measure customer service through customer contact and surveys

Ø Drive high customer satisfaction through constant monitoring of product and service to ensure that customer expectations are being met or exceeded during execution of event to encourage repeat business

Ø Establish client base of organization, associations, and commercial business through direct outside sales efforts for the purpose of securing business for the organization

Ø Responsible for solicitation and booking of conventions, meetings, banquets, and other events and for ensuring profitability of bookings

Ø Maintain knowledge of competitors’ products and monitors effectiveness

Ø Act as a change agent to improve and streamline department operations, through the continuous assessment of policies and procedures, work processes and program effectiveness and value

Ø Maintain strong working relationships with operating departments and external vendors, interfacing when necessary to ensure coordination of events

Ø Accurately produce and/or review all sales contracts, rate agreements and/other catering event orders

Ø Negotiate food and beverage prices, function space and hotel services within approved departmental booking guidelines

Ø Work closely with the Executive Chef on menu design and concepts pricing for catering events

Ø Maintain positive guest relations at all times

Ø Lead an organization with methods and actions that are ethical and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies

Ø Identify compliance risks and take actions necessary to eliminate or minimize risks

Ø Champion, within the organization, a commitment to honesty, integrity, and responsible corporate behavior

Ø Create a compliance culture within the organization and foster an environment where employees feel comfortable reporting potential violations or misconduct

Ø Coordinate with the Catering/Banquet Operations Team to provide maximum levels of customer assurance and satisfaction

Ø In conjunction with the Catering/Banquet Operations Team, investigates all group customer complaints and comments, following up with related department and/or taking immediate action to resolve the matter to the customers’ satisfaction

Ø Responsible for, or actively participates in, the initiation of personnel actions including but not limited to interviews, training, candidate selection, terminations, performance reviews, promotions, and transfers

Ø Provide continuous positive coaching for development of employees and appropriate corrective action when necessary

Ø Ensure completion and delivery of accurate timely performance appraisals and maintain accurate work history entries

Ø Ensure all employees are following guidelines of the EBCI liquor laws as defined by the Tribal ABC Commission and/or NC ABC Commission

Ø Other duties as required to deliver excellent service to internal and external customers

Ø Adhere to regulatory, departmental and company policies/procedures in an ethical manner


Ø High school diploma or GED required

Ø Bachelor’s degree in Restaurant Management, Hospitality Management or Business Management/Administration or related field or area of study preferred

Ø Ten years of experience in Catering, Convention and Events with at least five years of departmental leadership experience required

Ø Five years in management capacity experience required

Ø CARE certified preferred

Ø Must demonstrate the following essential knowledge and skills:

Ø Strong communication, supervisory, coaching, and organizational skills are required

Ø Proficient in the use of Windows based office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Delphi Sales and Event Management Software

Ø Record of strong leadership effectiveness

Ø Strong interpersonal skills

Ø Neat, professional appearance with excellent personal hygiene

Ø Knowledge of all phases of food and beverage administration, costs control and familiarity with all food and beverage services is required

Ø Documented teamwork behaviors and attitudes

Ø Ability to work and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Ø Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills


Ø Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling employee and/or guest demands in a fast-paced environment

Ø Must be able to be on property expected throughout all key result times

Ø Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, kneel, twist and grip items

Ø Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment, including computers, fax machine and photo copier

Ø Must be able to lift up to 25pounds and carry 5 pounds

Ø Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues

Ø Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

Ø Must be able to be on feet for 10-12 hours per day

Ø Must be able to travel overnight if required

Ø Must be able to tolerate areas containing varying noise and temperature levels, illumination, vibration, crowds, and air quality including secondhand smoke

Ø Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays

Pay: $106,460.15 - $141,946.46 per year
