What are the responsibilities and job description for the Caretaker III position at Harris County?
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Caretaker III performs duties related to landscaping grounds development and maintenance of county park grounds, equipment, facilities, roadways, and right-of-ways, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs regular maintenance of landscaped area including but not limited to:
- pulling weeds
- mulching
- trimming hedges
- planting trees/plants
- removing leaves, etc.
- Assists with installing and repairing irrigation system, drainage systems
- Assists with fertilizing, seeding, and spraying
- Prepares landscaping beds for seasonal color, which include tilling, grading and mulching
- Trims and mows grounds
- Operates and performs daily maintenance of assigned equipment used in parks landscaping maintenance work, including manual, power and riding mowers, tractors, chainsaws, blowers, dump trucks, weedeaters and edgers, etc.

- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in grounds landscaping
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Possesses basic identification knowledge of plants, weeds, plant diseases and pests
- Must attain a Class “B” CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 180 days of hire or a class “A” CDL and special endorsements, if job requires
- Position requires Pesticide Applicator License
