Registered Dietitian Position Overview:
The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides individualized counseling to high-risk WIC clients, follows up on referrals of clients to other health providers, evaluates and approves non-contract formula requests. The RD will function as a Certifying Authority to determine program eligibility of WIC applicants, provide nutrition education to individuals or groups, and work on special projects, as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluates high risk referrals from WIC sites and takes appropriate actions to counsel or assist clients with high-risk nutrition conditions.

Evaluates formula requests, communicates with health care providers to clarify requests and makes approval determination of formula requests.

Determines eligibility of WIC applicants according to State and Federal policies, provides nutrition counseling to WIC clients according to State Agency policies, promotes and counsel's women on the benefits of breastfeeding according to the Breastfeeding Promotion Plan, issues and explains use of breast pumps to clients according to policy.

Participates as a member of the WIC administrative team to assess and recommend changes in local policies and procedures and participates in audits at WIC sites.

Assists in training and evaluation of WIC Nutritionists and Certification Specialists as needed.

Conducts outreach activities to inform community groups/agencies about WIC services and/or to provide nutrition education.

Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
Experience:
-
One (1) year work experience as an RD, RDN, DTR, or Nutritionist

Dietetic Internship from an ACEND Accredited Program with experience in WIC or a healthcare setting may be substituted for 1 year of work experience
Licensure:
-
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetic Registration

Licensed to practice as a Licensed Dietitian (LD) by the State of Texas

Valid Driver's License (Texas upon hire)

General Information
Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:

Full-Time | Grant-funded

Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and one (1) Saturday per month.

Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.

Employee will be required to travel regularly among all WIC sites in Harris County.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional clinic environment.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:

Position requires a high level of movement throughout the facility.

Employee must be able to lift supplies of 20 lbs. or greater.

This job requires bending and standing for long periods of times.
