Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is the county health department for Harris County and provides comprehensive health services and programs to the community through a workforce of approximately 700 public health professionals – all dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Harris County residents and the communities in which they live, learn, work, worship, and play. The HCPH jurisdiction included approximately 2.3 million people and over 30 other municipalities located in Harris County (not including the city of Houston).
Within the COVID-19 Division, this position will support the development and implementation of policies, strategies, or programs for prevention and intervention, integrating the information to advance school safety efforts against COVID 19. The school liaison will provide schools and school-based organizations with approved information about isolation, testing, and COVID 19 related procedures and monitor compliance, and supports compliance with HCPH COVID-19 guidance. This role is critical in providing support to the health department's outreach to schools and school-based programs to share information and guidance. This position will work closely with and have oversight by the COVID-19 Division’s Emergency Management Supervisor.
Duties & Responsibilities
Work with both school officials and the state with the development and revision of guidance related to COVID 19 for schools and school districts within the state including testing, screening, outbreak information, reporting requirements, and general school-related questions.
Ensures steady progress toward meeting deliverable deadlines; identify challenges, unmet needs and work collaboratively to develop solutions to advance the goals of the project
Ensures adequate daily operation of the projects, including correspondence, especially with ISDs, supervisors, project manager (s), and internal and external project partners
Maintains documentation of project activities and outcomes
Provides weekly project status reports and updates as needed, including documentation via designation software with project milestones
Maintains a process for evaluation and improvement of projects
Develops and maintains relationships with various diverse internal and external project partners
Ensures program data is accurately and confidentially obtained, tracked, and compiled as well as easy to reproduce and present
Participates as an integral member of the COVID-19 team to assess operational project needs as well as solicit feedback
Coordinates, attends and participates in ISD meetings, staff meetings. in-service training sessions.
Participates in departmental and local committees or in activities
Other Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- One (1) year of work experience with responsibilities in project coordination within the healthcare, nonprofit, or public health industry.
- One (1) year of experience working in a school environment or with a school partner
- Basic skills using MS Office Software such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Possess the ability to understand the challenges in the communities and differences in attitudes and beliefs towards health issues and solutions.
- Possess the ability to assist with communicating the divisional/departmental project-related goals and objectives to peers, job applicants, and the Harris County Community
- Ability to be attentive to detail and possess strong organizational and project coordination skills
- Possess technical writing skills and ability to verbally communicate effectively
- Possess the ability to multi-task effectively with strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Possess the ability to work toward the overall goal while also addressing details, including establishing priorities
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Valid Driver’s License (TX upon hire); Must have personal transportation for frequent travel
Physical Demands:
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files up to 10 pounds, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
This is a grant-funded full-time position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8 am. to 5 pm.
Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department.
