HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College is inviting applications for the Director for Academic Advising position. The role leads the academic advising unit and collaborate with departments, faculty and staff across the College on issues related to academic advising, related student support, as well as retention and completion.
Job Summary: This position is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and improving comprehensive and robust academic advising service at HACC. This position monitors the effectiveness of the service, with a goal of ensuring that every student has a clearly articulated path toward degree/program completion, and is consistently enrolled in classes identified in their academic plans. The director ensures academic advising is delivered with the understanding that advising is critical to students' successful completion of their academic programs of study. The director also provides consultation and support to faculty and staff regarding academic advising issues, and ensures congruency and equity of academic advising at all HACC locations and virtually.

Job Specific Task List:
1. Ensure the creation and successful implementation of policies, procedures, and activities related to academic advising, consistent with HACC's overall missions and strategic plans; identify and resolve problems; ensure consistent application of rules and regulations, and handle complex and high-level complaints or issues consulting with other college leadership as necessary.
2. Oversee the delivery of comprehensive advising services, including individualized advising, group advising, and virtual advising, for all HACC students, ensuring that each student is assigned a competent trained advisor; effectively balance dual role of student advocate and department representative, promoting student success while upholding policies and procedures that protect the integrity of HACC credentials.
3. Facilitate robust, continual training on collegiate advising best practices to all advisors (faculty advisors and professional advisors): including but not limited to training on e-advising tools, advising best practices, as well as effective ways to communicate with students; ensure excellence and consistency in delivery advising to all HACC students, virtually and in-person.
4. Integrate advising technologies, as well as related e-tools into the advising practice, to support and enhance the success of all HACC students; ensure that all advisors are knowledgeable and aware of all available advising tools and resources; coordinate with information technology staff to ensure that related IT systems, including but not limited to student communications systems, degree evaluation and planning system, etc, are optimized to efficiently and effectively underwrite students' success.
5. Supervise assistant directors and other advising staff; hire, train, develop, motivate, supervise and evaluate staff consistent with organizational and strategic goals.
6. Develop budgets and prudently manage finances throughout the fiscal year, adhering to state, federal, and HACC fiscal policies and procedures; direct the preparation of departmental budgets, financial reports, and grant-related budgets; monitor revenues and expenditures for best use of resources.
7. Build and maintain effective partnerships with faculty, academic departments and schools, to address student academic advising issues, needs, and concerns; maintain and communicate most current information and understanding of HACC academic program requirements and sequencing for completion.
8. Provide leadership in the assessment and evaluation of academic advising; create and implement assessment protocols to measure the performance and effectiveness of all advising practice; institute regular systems of data collection, reporting and analysis to track progress and inform advising practice, as well as improve performance. Assure advising data integrity and produces advising-related reports for as needed.
9. Develop expertise in academic advising; remain current on new and innovative practices in the field of collegiate academic advising; develop and maintain a network with colleagues through professional organizations such as NACADA.
10. Travel to all HACC locations regularly, conduct regular group and individual meetings with Academic Advising staff, and consistently receive feedback from stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness of all advising activities. - (Essential)
