Job Description
The Waste Profile Specialist is responsible in the process of managing Waste Approvals into our TSDFs by reviewing all related information and ensuring they meet regulatory and facility permit and processing requirements. Liaising with various departments including Sales, Customer Service and Plant Operations to ensure Waste Approvals are accurately represented and are approved both appropriately and expeditiously.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Responsible for the review and approval of waste materials into the company's nationwide Hazardous Waste TSDF and Transportation 10-Day network.
- Review Material Profiles submitted by sales/customer service to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Review all applicable backup documentation including SDS, Analysis, Pharmaceutical Formularies or other information relevant to the proper characterization of the material
- Provide regulatory review of EPA, DOT and State designations
- Provide clear and detailed explanation to Customer Service and Sales as to what is needed to obtain the approval
- Approve or reject materials for the appropriate TSDF(s) or Transportation 10-Day locations
- Respond to Sales and Customer Service inquiries related to pre-approval information (ie. Processing Methods for initial pricing)
- Work to approve materials within the Company’s turnaround time agreements
- Ensure waste material is acceptable within limitations of Part B permit and if not acceptable at requested TSDF, actively seek alternative option(s) with assistance of Materials Management
- Ensure approval of an inbound profile is not finalized without having an approved outbound profile
- Limit the liability to Clean Earth by decreasing number of third-party outlets utilized
- Once all applicable pre-approval tasks are completed and/or satisfied, approves profile in appropriate operating system.
- Add pertinent handling requirements to profile operational notes. (SBU, do not pump, weigh, etc.)
Qualifications
Basic Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry or Engineering
OR - 3 years of experience in the hazardous waste industry
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with hazardous waste
- General knowledge of compliance of State and Regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- General knowledge of DOT regulations
- General knowledge of all available treatment technologies
- General knowledge of Facility Operations permits and Waste Analysis Plans
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office – PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint
