Position Description
The Intellectual Property (IP) team within the Office of Technology Development (OTD) supports the management, development, and maintenance of the University's diverse and expanding patent portfolio. The Patent Compliance Administrator coordinates and has direct responsibility for organizing and implementing administrative procedures to ensure federally funded inventions are reported to the appropriate federal agency and accurate Government Support Clauses are included in new patent applications filed by outside patent counsel. Serves as principal administrative contact and liaison with Office of Sponsored Programs and Principal Investigators to process patent-related portions of grant close-out requests. Keeps current on trends in federal agency invention reporting compliance issues and advises IP team appropriately. The role also coordinates and has direct responsibility for organizing and implementing administrative procedures to ensure Foundation funded inventions are reported appropriately, including analyzing individual award agreement terms to ensure compliant reporting. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitor and process OTD’s central patents email account; entering patent application data and docketing patent deadlines and related data in OTD’s database; verifying and processing various patent-related signature documents; obtaining literature references in support of patenting activities; prepare reports as needed. Working with(in) other functional teams in OTD is essential. Occasional travel between OTD’s Cambridge and Boston offices is required. Other duties as required by the department and/or IP team.
Basic Qualifications
Three or more years of patent-related administrative or compliance experience are required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Familiarity with patent rules and patent-related databases is strongly desirable. Must have previous working knowledge and experience using databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and email software packages (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred).
Additional Information
This position may start hybrid (some on-campus/some remote work), with the transition to a full-on campus in Cambridge if required by the department. Work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
