Hastings Mutual is currently looking for a Senior Systems / Software Application Tester! This is a great opportunity for an experienced IT Testing professional to join our Application Development team and deliver exceptional software and systems testing support for applications used across the business.
Position Overview
The individual in this role plans, designs, and executes test cases for in-house product development, software application development, information system launches, and operations systems enhancements. The position applies proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate, verify, and communicate systems/software application issues through careful testing in order to maximize the benefit of IT investments and initiatives.
Position Location & Work Format
This position will work from our Hastings, Michigan offices in a hybrid (combination of work-from-home and in-office) arrangement. However, we will also consider candidates who reside in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Wisconsin to work remotely. Generally, this position will work within our standard office hours of Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluates, plans, designs, develops, and deploys testing techniques for new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles.
- Reviews project requirements and develops extensive system test cases to cover all project requirements, including expected results.
- Creates and executes test scripts, cases, and scenarios that will determine optimal system performance according to requirement specifications for new products as well as change requests (defects, enhancements, new features functionality).
- Conducts or supports all types of application testing as needed, such as unit, system, acceptance and regression testing methods.
- Analyzes formal test results in order to discover defects, bugs, errors, and configuration issues, and track till closure.
- Analyzes documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
- Produces reports and documentation for all testing efforts, results, activities, data, logging, and tracking.
- Communicates test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management.
- Takes ownership of issues arising from testing and assists in resolution.
- Works with members of the application development, product management, and QA teams to ensure high-quality applications.
- Serves as a mentor and trainer to other QA Testers.
- Actively participates in professional development, i.e. continuing education or self-improvement.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Five to seven years minimum experience in software testing.
- Experience testing property and casualty insurance applications are preferred.
- Knowledge of industry-standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Experience using testing tools such as Selenium, Testproject.io, Azure DevOps, or other test automation is preferred.
- Experience with Agile software development is preferred.
- Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, cross-functional, collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated PC skills including proficient use of Microsoft Office products.
