Position Summary/Purpose
Organizes, monitors, works and supervises the truck and trailer shop operation within Hay Creek Companies. Position will be responsible for the technical tasks relative all vehicle and equipment preventative and repair maintenance. Position will ensure all State, federal and local regulations are met and in conformance with latest regulations and policies. Position will utilize best practices to improve overall performance and company communication. This position is responsible for organization, utilization, and inventory of replacement parts. The Fleet Manager is responsible for keeping lines of communication open with the President of the company, General Manager, Plant Manager, and Dispatcher for business cohesion. Executes all parts ordering and purchase price negotiation.
Compensation:$25 - $32 hourly
Responsibilities:- Manage the truck shop with efficiency and full utilization of technicians
- Perform daily yard checks to manage company AVI schedule and maintenance lists
- Implements and monitors a preventative maintenance program to assure cost-effective maintenance and a scheduled maintenance program to provide maintenance per manufacturers' specifications.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing vehicle and equipment maintenance services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Provides leadership and direction to the truck and trailer team to demonstrate responsible safety behavior, perform to quality standards and attain efficient workflow and productivity.
- Manage equipment and vehicle maintenance through adequate staffing, equipment and supplies to minimize downtime and most importantly correct safety issues found in safety assessments and audits.
- Participate in hiring, team development, coaching, mentoring, discipline, and discharge of maintenance employees. Ensures that all maintenance employees receive appropriate safety training.
- Track performance of maintenance employees – safety, quality, productivity.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and lowest pricing of maintenance supplies and materials when purchasing.
- Perform the full range of equipment mechanic duties; perform the most complex vehicle maintenance duties; provide technical assistance to mechanics and training to equipment operators.
- Ensure continuous production flow and redirect employees to areas of need.
- Maintain safe working environment based on OSHA regulations.
- Establish constant communication with General Manager, Dispatcher and Plant Manager to ensure timely and accurate scheduling.
- Welds; replaces parts; repairs parts; repairs electrical systems; diagnoses vehicles for minor body and fender work; performs tune-ups and engine overhauls; troubleshoots problems when needed.
- Examines reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment repaired; writes reports on vehicles and equipment repaired.
- Checks all repair work performed in shop for completeness. This includes physical inspections and road tests before vehicle is turned back to driver.
Education and Experience
- High school or general education diploma (GED) plus course work in auto and equipment mechanics at a trade school and minimum of five (5) years of experience as a mechanic, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge & Understanding
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement. Considerable knowledge of safety practices and techniques in mechanics; considerable knowledge of diesel and gas engine mechanics, and considerable knowledge of vehicle make-up. Able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment with accuracy and speed. Knowledge and understand the equipment, tools and materials used in vehicle and equipment maintenance activities and services.
