Responsibilities

Responsibilities of a Children's Counselor include:

  • Utilizes basic group therapy skills and therapeutic recreational activities with children and their families and facilitates child/family interactions during all Children’s Programs and the Continuing Care Program.
  • Assesses and registers families for the Children’s Program while keeping appropriate Children’s Program records.  Provides initial and ongoing contact for caregivers of children (BFC patients and the general public).
  • Develops relationships with community resources that can be community referral sources and conducts outreach activities to promote the Children’s Program.
  • Develops lectures and presents information about children and addiction, family recovery and related issues to BFC patients and staff, outside professionals, and the general public.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations and exemplary customer service skills in dealing with clients, co-workers, supervisors, referents and other outside professionals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of three years experience working or volunteering with children
  • Valid driver's license
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire

Preferred:

  • Degree/Coursework in Education, Child Development, Counselor or related field
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of 12-step programs
