Job Summary and Qualifications
- You will establish and maintain a surgically clean environment by applying principles of asepsis, infection control, and continued monitoring of the sterile field.
- You will work collaboratively with surgeon, patient and surgical team by handling tissue and instruments, providing exposure, hemostasis and suturing.
- You will provide hemostasis to reduce potential for postoperative infection and potential fluid volume deficit by clamping and/or ligating vessels using electrosurgical cautery, applying direct pressure, applying chemical agents that promote coagulation, and other means as directed by the surgeon.
- You will provide exposure of the operative site through the appropriate use of retractors and other instruments and through suctioning and sponging.
- You will use surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose as directed by the surgeon.
- You will handle all varieties of tissues appropriately to reduce potential for injury or compromised blood supply and suture tissues skillfully with the appropriate suture materials and suturing technique.
What qualifications you will need:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse
- 2 years’ experience in a peri-operative role with experience in both scrub and circulating
- Current certification in CPR
- National certification in peri-operative nursing (CNOR)
- Successful completion of all didactic and clinical components within a course of study from a surgical first assisting program which has been approved by Frisbie Memorial Hospital. This program must meet the AORN Recommended Education Standards for RNFA programs.
