Job Summary and Qualifications
The Registered Respiratory Therapist shall deliver competent and compassionate Respiratory Care services for patients of all age groups through the of use accepted Clinical Practice Guidelines for assessing, treating and documenting the effects of care for the respiratory care provided to patients. The Respiratory Therapist shall work cooperatively with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary staff, and other members of the patent care team utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to maintain standards for professional practices. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. These functions of the Respiratory Therapist shall be carried out according to departmental and hospital policies, the hospital’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department’s code of ethics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleans, assembles, checks, maintains, operates, troubleshoots and performs minor repair on all equipment
- Performs general respiratory therapy to all ages in accordance with age specific criteria including incentive breathing devices, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy and suctioning.
- Collects and evaluates additional information through chart review, general assessment and patient interviews.
- Performs and modifies (or changes) treatments based on response to therapy.
- Evaluates and monitors response to all therapy with appropriate documentation in the medical record.
- Provides critical care services to patients of all ages in accordance with age specific criteria.
- Reviews patient records.
- Manages and makes adjustments to mechanical ventilators, including weaning.
- Assists with endotracheal intubation and performs extubations.
- CPR, patient transport and monitoring.
- Inspects X-Ray to determine presence of abnormalities, tracheal tube position and other conditions
- Maintains a patent airway by providing adequate humidification, use or oral and nasopharyngeal airways and suctioning.
- Performs and evaluates diagnostic studies to include bedside spirometry, pulmonary mechanics and blood gas analysis
- Performs and monitors moderately complex testing as related to the blood gas lab, sample collection, sample analysis, reporting of results and maintenance procedures.
- Performs EKG’s as needed, including transmission of results
- Appropriate patient/family education is provided based on assessed needs with appropriate documentation.
- Verifies, prepares and administers medication to patients. Identifies patient prior to administration. Reports medication errors and significant drug reactions to appropriate individuals with appropriate documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Cardiopulmonary Manager/Director.
*This is a FT night shift with rotating weekends
What qualifications you will need:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
Certified or Registered through the National Board for Respiratory Care
- State Registered Respiratory Therapist through the Texas Medical Board
- Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
