Job Summary and Qualifications
The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for coordinating departmental activities through personnel resources. The position supervises work productivity of staff to ensure clean, orderly hospital image in public / work units / patient areas ensuring department’s quality standards are obtained. Assists the Department Manager in overall operation of staffing needs, problem solving concerns, and meet the hospital’s strategic growth plans. Completes evaluations of staff with the guidance of Manager. Instructs employees in all required hospital codes. Trains new employees on assigned duties. Completes daily rounds on floors and conducts quality checks on a daily basis. The position will attend Bed Board meetings and updates Bed Board status in the computer
· Round floors, closely monitor employees to obtain expected productivity levels as well as quality of work and ensure patient care centers are maintained to the highest levels in order to achieve optimum HCAPS scores.
· Responsible for conducting quality checks in all areas, patient rooms, and common areas.
· Responsible for daily departmental activities utilizing available resources.
· Attends Bed Board meetings to get a clear picture of census, discharges, admissions, and any other activity in the hospital.
· Assists in preparing daily assignments and adjusts routine when needed to ensure all areas are staffed and cleaned properly.
· Checks daily census and assigns staff accordingly to maximize productivity.
· Resolved problems arising from patient and staff complaints documenting action taken and communicates to the Director/Manger and fellow staff members.
· Communicates effectively with Nursing regarding staff assignments.
· Coordinates with the Nursing Supervisor to set priorities and redistribute work stemming from a high occurrence of transfers and discharges.
· Ensures that all areas are kept on a regular cleaning routine as documents by the position checklist.
· Records periodical projects including floor care and terminal cleaning.
· Evaluates patient care areas, office, etc. to prepare plans for special projects.
· Assists in keeping the department and supply room clean; helps to stock supplies and maintain adequate inventory levels.
· Ensures that equipment is issued and received at the beginning and end of each shift; ensures equipment is in good condition and cleaned.
· Ensures that all housekeeping equipment is properly stored when not in use.
· Maintains equipment log when repairs or monthly service occurs.
· Assists with general duties of the Environmental staff, when necessary to maximize the efforts of the department.
· Sets short-term and long-term goals for Environmental staff, both individually and as a group.
· Appropriately trains and orients new employees.
· Monitors employees time and attendance records and takes necessary steps to correct behavior which is in violation of hospital policy.
· Conducts annual training for employees by utilizing available information and audio visual aides
· Provides counseling when necessary to employees who violate hospital policy.
· Assists Director and Manager during monthly staff meetings by conducting classes, meetings, and/or training objectives.
· Makes independent decision within the confines of policies and procedures to ensure the duties of the department are carried out professionally and in an effort to de-escalate a situation which may be detrimental to the hospital.
· Demonstrates knowledge of, or ability to ascertain, information regarding but not limited to the following areas:
o TJC Standards
o OSHA Rules and Regulations.
o HRS rules and regulations
o Scheduling, forecasting, and resource utilization.
o Evaluation of chemicals and equipment.
o Difference between Quats and Phenol disinfectants.
o Procedures in floor care (carpet and tile)
· Responds to all emergencies when requested (which may not include issues specific to this department), noting problem, action taken, and recommendations to avoid a similar incident in the future.
· Assist with updating policies and procedures pertaining to cleaning procedures and the director in enforcing that employees are compliant with guidelines set forth by all regulatory agencies, especially issues related to environmental and safety management such as blood-borne pathogens, biomedical wasted transport and infection control.
· Other duties as assigned.
· High School Diploma or its equivalent, preferred.
Three years of supervisor experience in healthcare food and nutrition services preferred.
