SCHEDULE: Full-time

Oviedo Medical Center, the new 64-bed acute care hospital, provides a full range of healthcare services to east Seminole County and surrounding communities. Services include medical and surgical inpatient units, intensive care, medical cardiology, telemetry, cardiac catheterization, inpatient and outpatient surgery, women’s services including labor and delivery, cardiopulmonary services, comprehensive diagnostic imaging and 24/7 emergency care. Oviedo Medical Center is designed with the patient in mind with personalized care, all private rooms and the newest medical technology available. Oviedo Medical Center is located at the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road and State Road 426.
 
Oviedo Medical Center is currently seeking a Unit Secretary to join our Cardiac/Neuro team.  This position will be Full-time and will have rotating weekend requirements.
 
Position Description
  • Clarifies unclear or unfamiliar orders with RN/Charge RN/LPN.  Promptly notifies RN/Charge RN/LPN of stat orders.
  • Ensures physician orders are processed/entered promptly and accurately as per policy under the supervision of the RN/Charge RN/LPN. 
  • Works cooperatively with other units in coordinating patient transfers and temporary placement and ensures Charge RN and admitting is promptly notified of admissions, discharges, transfers and patient needs.
  • Contributes to a culture of patient centered care by ensuring a quiet healing environment.
  • Communicates and interacts with patients, families and others in a caring, empathetic, courteous, and respectful manner. 
  • Communicates effectively and works with physicians and/or other members of the interdisciplinary team in meeting patient needs.
  • Continuously evaluates work process and design; understands role in ensuring quality/performance improvement, productivity, and service delivery to meet stakeholder needs.
  • Accurately scans and records equipment and supplies to ensure appropriate charges and inventory control.
  • Optimizes use of supplies, equipment and services, ensuring a high level of clinical care at the lowest cost.  Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered. 
  • Acts as departmental receptionist; courteously greets and receives all visitors, patients and families to the unit.  Is courteous in all verbal interactions and practices good telephone etiquette at all times.
  • Willingly shares knowledge/expertise and assists co-workers.  Fosters teamwork and contributes to achievement of team goals.  Acts as a resource for co-worker's as appropriate.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, patient conferences and in-service presentations as appropriate.  Completes annual competency training, including but not limited to, infection control, patient safety, quality improvement, MSDS, and OSHA standards (PPE, First Aid and Blood-borne Pathogens, Hazard Communications, Emergency Procedures and Job Safety).
