Description
HCA Solutions is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant - Expert for the DHS, Office of Children Youth and Families, Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services (BJJS). Services will be provided to male and female residents of the North East Secure Treatment Unit, Danville, PA. The Physician Assistant will work under the supervision of the Physician or Surgeon but may work independently, consulting with Physicians when necessary. You should have experience in all areas of medicine but may specialize in an area such as psychiatry, pediatrics, dermatology, or surgery.
This position is part-time, 1 day a week for 6-8 hours, per that day.
To be a successful Physician Assistant, you should be formally educated to examine patients, diagnose injuries and illnesses, and provide treatment. You should demonstrate strong attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physician Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite direct clinical services such as but not limited to, health examinations, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses
- Review referrals for resident care made by the treatment team and provide verbal or written recommendations regarding plan of care;
- Complete physical examinations on prospective new employees;
- Prescribe and oversee administration of the treatment plan. If the plan includes a medication regime, the Consultant must utilize the Formulary adopted by the BJJS and prescribe generic brands when available. Should there be a need to prescribe outside the Formulary, prior authorization must be obtained from the Regional Nurse Manager.
- In determining resident health problems, the Consultant shall consult with staff and other contracted/non-contracted healthcare practitioners as necessary on acute and/or chronic medical/mental health problems to ensure that treatment plans are followed;
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings;
- Participate in Master Case Planning System meetings;
- Conduct medication reviews as established by agency policy;
- Make referrals for outside health care as medically necessary;
- Serve as a liaison to outside health care providers and facilities; and
- Document all findings and recommendations as established by agency/facility policy.
- Be available as part-time certified Physician Assistant approximately sixteen hours per week; Hours of work will be agreed upon by the facilities and consultant.
- Consultant will be available by phone for consult and direction as necessary. If consultant can be reached by phone, reimbursement shall be in accordance at 25% of selected bill rate.
It will be the Consultants responsibility to comply with all State regulations and other applicable regulations and policies established by the Department and the BJJS.
In providing services for the Department, Consultant will review all documents relevant to individual resident care, including but not limited to:
1. History and physicals including chief complaints and presenting symptoms
2. Physician/PA/CRNP orders;
3. Plan of care/Treatment plan
4. Physician/health care practitioner progress notes
5. Laboratory studies
6. X-rays and other radiology results
7. Physician/health care practitioner consultation reports
8. Surgical summaries
9. Diagnostic tests and studies
10. Medications
11. Therapy evaluations
12. Discharge summaries
Requirements
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant certification/license for the state of Pennsylvania
- Ability to obtain DEA licensure/Prescriptive Authority
- Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience preferred.
- Possess basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
- Copy of certified Physician Assistant license.
- Copy of any board certifications.
- Verification of ongoing clinical practice.
- Verification of continuing medical education; including dates, topics and credits earned for each educational session.
- Attestation that no prohibitions, sanctions, or terminations have been levied on Consultant from Federal, State, or other health programs in and outside of Pennsylvania.
- Verification of malpractice insurance (copy of front page of policy)
- Documentation statement of any malpractice actions or settlements during the past year.
- Copy of DEA registration and number.
