Primary Duties & Responsibilities
1) Environmental Operations
35%
- Company maintains compliance to federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as corporate EHS standards
- Environmental regulatory updates, new standards and customer requirements are studied, understood and requirements communicated to the organization
- Company maintains an Environmental Management System compliant to ISO 9001 and 14001 standard
- Reporting requirements are met on time with the following:
- Environmental Protection Agency
- California Department of Health
- California Commission on Environmental Quality
- California Water Development Board
- Department of Transportation
- Manage and maintain compliance for hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including:
- Chemical and waste handling
- Waste definitions and classifications
- Waste minimization and recycling
- Packaging, labeling, and manifesting waste shipments
- Disposal management
- Generator categories and corresponding regulations
- Waste accumulation and corresponding requirements
- Container and tank management
- Manage and maintain air quality compliance
- Air quality permits and facilities emissions
- Permit by rule exemptions
- Review and approve EHS impact of all new product development (PDP) and continuous improvement projects
- Work with process engineering to define process EHS requirements and develop operating procedures
- All company environmental policies and procedures are in place and current
- Training is developed and delivered as required
- No impacts to the environment and\or residential neighbors
- No citations or monetary fines issued due to non-compliance
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements, international standards, customer requirements, company policy, procedures and practices
2) Employee Safety
30%
- Company maintains compliance to federal, state and local safety regulations, including:
- CAL-OSHA Regulations
- Prop 65 Regulations
- Safety regulatory updates, new standards and customer requirements are studied, understood and requirements communicated to the organization
- Training materials are developed and delivered per Cal/OSHA requirements
- Employee safety-related medical records are maintained properly
- All company safety and health policies and procedures are in place and current
- Safety committee is staffed, trained, and regular meetings are held.
- No citations and monetary fines issued due to non-compliance
3) Waste Water Treatment and Filtration Systems
10%
- Compliance to local and government waste water standards is maintained
- System efficiency is maintained to ensure continuous support of production operations
- Chemical and supply inventory are maintained to ensure high productivity at lowest cost
- Alarm conditions receive immediate, effective response to minimize negative impact
- No citations and monetary fines issued due to non-compliance
- No negative impacts to the environment, residential neighbors, or production operations
4) Emergency Coordinator
5%
- All Emergency Operations and equipment are maintained in good operating condition and meet inspection requirements
- Fire suppression systems and extinguishers
- Building security
- Emergency eye wash and shower stations
- First aid cabinets
- Spill response media
- All company emergency policies and procedures are in place, current and facility employees are trained
- Emergency Evacuation
- Earthquake Alert
- Chemical Spill
- Security
- Contingency Plan
- Contingency Plans are in place and current
- Responsible for authorizing activation of response and notification of proper authorities
5) Workers Compensation
5%
- All injury reporting to insurance carrier and State agencies are completed in a timely manner
- All injured employees receive authorized satisfactory medical care
- Accident investigations are conducted promptly and recommendations are made in a timely manner
- Injured employees who incur lost time return to work in a timely manner
- All injured employees who have work restrictions return to regular work in a timely manner
6) Administrative
3%
- Works closely with Corporate EHS to meet Corporate EHS goals, including implementation of Corporate EHS Standards and advancement of Corporate Social Responsibility goals
- ESGP (Employee Success and Growth Process) goals are developed, pursued and achieved
- Reports and indices are updated on time
- Process Value Chain methods are used for process improvements and cost reduction
- Suggestions for continuous improvement are documented and communicated
- Problem solving and RCA analyses are used to identify root cause and effective solutions
- Timely and consistent communication with coworkers and department teams is maintained
- Quality work environment housekeeping standards are maintained for own work area and community areas
7) Special Projects
12%
- Special projects and assignments are supported as required
- Project reports and recommendations to upper Management are submitted
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, or equivalent EHS experience
- 5 years in EHS operations in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of U.S. environmental and safety regulations
- Knowledge of California environmental and safety regulations
- ISO 9001 and 14001 experience
- Working knowledge of RoHS/REACH/WEE standards
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Skills
- Hands-on expertise in all areas of EHS
- Able to balance financial, safety and environmental objectives
- EHS audit experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; ability to comprehend and communicate at a high level with Senior Managers, customers, distributors, and regulatory agencies
- Ability to take direction remotely from direct supervisor and dotted line on-site supervisor
- Ability to anticipate and handle multiple priorities and complex/abstract issues involving external and internal priorities
- Ability to excel in a cross-organizational, cross-cultural, global team environment
- Proven ability to lead and motivate people
- Able to handle special assignments promptly and professionally
Safety Requirements
All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and II-VI Corporate EHS standards.
Quality and Environmental Responsibilities
Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
