HDR is looking for an experienced Substation Designer to join our growing, nationally-ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Raleigh, NC.
Primary Resposnibilites
- Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, reports and designs for electrical substations (low, medium and high voltage) and substation systems to support engineers.
- Work independently to perform substation design tasks, CADD design, modeling and/or analysis, prepare material lists, perform field reviews, and other tasks ranging from simple to moderately complex projects.
- Based upon experience, the Substation Designer may perform most design responsibilities without assistance on simple to moderately complex projects and may work independently but with some engineering guidance on complex projects.
Required Qualifications
- Associate or technical school degree, or combination of education and relevant experience
- A minimum of 2 years' experience working as a CAD Technician
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and standard BIM Software (AutoCAD, MicroStation or InRoads, etc)
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
- MicroStation proficiency and 3D experience is a plus
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm or utility desired
- Local candidates are preferred
- Experience in both the protection and control (indoor) and physical (outdoor) aspects of high voltage (HV) substation design preferred
- Experience with substation design including one-line diagrams, general arrangements sections, grounding & conduit plans, foundation plans, material lists (BOM), relay and control systems Experience with schematic and wiring diagrams preferred
- Should be able to independently make design and engineering decisions for low to moderately complex projects with minimal oversight
