HIDA is seeking an Editorial Manager to serve as managing editor of its Healthcare Distribution & Supply Chain magazine, a key component of HIDA’s value to its members.
The role includes planning, writing, editing, and production of magazine. The manager also supervises/edits HIDA Daily Clips, monthly e-newsletters and supports public affairs activities.
The position requires exceptional writing and editing skills, intellectual curiosity, and an aptitude for visual communications. The manager must be able to work both independently and collaboratively to ensure deliverables are achieved and timelines are met. This position reports to the Director of Public Affairs and regularly collaborates with other HIDA departments, HIDA members and stakeholders, and vendors.

The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) is the trade association representing the healthcare distribution network – the essential link between global healthcare supply manufacturers and local care providers. HIDA members operate more than 500 distribution centers to bring critical products, supplies, and services to more than 560,000 healthcare settings across the U.S., including hospitals, long-term care, physician practices, home care, and laboratories. Established in 1902, HIDA is a leading voice on matters important to the healthcare distribution industry as well as the healthcare supply chain as a whole. HIDA’s office is located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and operates on a 3 days in-office, 2 days remote schedule.
Essential responsibilities of position:

  • Manage the HIDA magazine, Healthcare Distribution & Supply Chain (six issues per year)

o Set schedules and ensure that deadlines are met
o Write and edit articles
o Work with outside designer to produce magazine

  • Manage/edit HIDA Daily Clips and monthly e-newsletters
  • Identify key messages and ensure that these messages are effectively disseminated through various means including magazine, e-newsletters, and other media
  • Write announcements, press releases, emails, and other documents aimed at enhancing HIDA’s value to its members
  • Collaborate with HIDA’s membership team on content marketing aimed at attracting new members
  • Other project management, writing, and editing as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:
Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Concentration/courses in public affairs, journalism, or communication helpful.
  • Strong editing and writing experience required; experience with a trade or association magazine preferred
  • Experience working with designers to create visually appealing publications
  • Healthcare industry knowledge/experience highly desired; familiarity with healthcare supply chain a major plus
  • Business courses and/or experience also very helpful

  • Analytical thinking

o to identify issues and define their potential impact on association members, their customers, and the overall industry
o to grasp and communicate both qualitative and quantitative information

  • Intellectual curiosity – a natural tendency to want to understand and investigate unfamiliar issues
  • Project management skills
  • Aptitude for visual communication – ability to envision appealing layouts and graphics and work with a designer to executive the vision
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines and yet adjust to changing demands.
