Florida Licensed Nurse ( K-12 Schools)

Job Description:

This position is responsible for providing healthcare management, physical assessment, care and treatment for minor injuries and healthcare referral to the students enrolled in the program. It will require for the person to address medical emergencies, assess circumstances, conditions and resolve such according to established procedures and protocols. Also, this position is to facilitate cohesive efforts to achieve continuous quality improvement for excellence in healthcare.

The position will be a full time role with a schedule of Monday through Friday on-site in Escambia County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in meeting the health needs of the general school population and those students identified with specific health conditions;
  • Provides direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans and established school health policies, procedures and protocols;
  • Charts and maintains accurate records of activities performed, i.e. medications dispensed, incident reports, nursing notes, daily treatments and interventions.
  • Initiates and maintains accurate student health records, immunization records, medication administration records, individual student treatment plans, and individualized healthcare plan utilizing confidential methods;
  • Establishes effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs and submitting required reports;
  • Communicates with parents regarding individual students and serves as a liaison between school personnel, the family, health care professionals, and the community, to ensure appropriate referral and follow up for student health needs;
  • Provide supervision supporting behavior management program; participate in conflict resolution meetings.
  • Contributes to the campus communications to parents and the local community regarding health issues;
  • Attends Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings of students with identified health needs, and develops the Individual Health Plan;
  • Develops and implements Individual Health Plans and evaluates outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students, thus integrating the medically fragile student safely into the school environment;
  • Collaborates with district personnel, including school psychologist/special education diagnostician regarding implementation of health-related Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and services;
  • Educates faculty and staff as needed on health related topics;
  • Ensures the safe and sanitary conditions of the school clinic, i.e. stocking supplies, cleaning surfaces, and changing exam paper.
  • Adheres to campus policies and procedures to promote the health and wellness of students and staff;
  • Provides consultation to campus administration in crisis/emergency situations;
  • Prepares medications for administration and dispenses such to students in accordance with physician orders and established time schedules.
  • Adhere to established budget guidelines.
  • Participates in staff development as outlined in the Florida Nurse Practice Act to maintain professional nursing skills and knowledge including but not limited to: Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (CPR/AED), certification in mandated screenings and continuing education as required by the Florida Board of Nursing; and
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Nursing
  • Bachelor degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Nursing license
  • Hold First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must have experience working with Children in a hospital and/or school and community-health nursing
  • Ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to use effective positive interpersonal skills;
  • Computer proficiency including basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to assist students by action or interaction in carrying out specialized therapeutic or physical care plans and procedures;
  • Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of special needs and therapeutic equipment; familiarity with HIPAA laws of confidentiality;
  • Must possess knowledge of OSHA compliance standards;
  • Must have a commitment to a core set of beliefs about learning, teaching and ongoing professional development.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and district rules, regulations and policies as they relate to job functions
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision
  • Ability to compose correspondence and prepare reports in an articulate manner
  • Ability to possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Must have the ability to interpret program trends, results, and related data to formulate recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong skills in planning and problem solving.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of working extended hours if and when the position requires it.
  • Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills.
  • Must have finger dexterity for holding objects, typing, etc.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
