Biannual incentives guaranteed first year[MB1] .
HealthSource of Ohio is seeking full-time BHCs to be valued members of our family practice teams under the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model. This is an exciting opportunity for both licensed psychologists and licensed independent social workers who like to be where the action is, to join a growing PCBH team at the ground-level.
ABOUT US
HealthSource is a private, not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center and a leader in primary care delivery in Ohio since 1976. We employ nearly 200 support staff and 60 medical providers, and serve 78,000 patients east of Cincinnati. We are dedicated to the Quadruple Aim, striving for excellence in whole-person care of our patients as well as our staff and clinicians.
We are committed, from the top-down, to implementing the PCBH model as routine care across our organization. We are prioritizing preparation, sustainability, and model fidelity as we build our program. We are expanding one office at a time, hiring BHCs to work full-time in that office only, to facilitate adherence to a team-based consultant model. Management, medical leads, and key staff are sent to BHC Training Academy at Cherokee Health Systems before a BHC starts in their office. Good payer reimbursement and ongoing grant funding [MB2] gives us confidence in the financial sustainability of our program.
THE POSITION
An excellent description of this role is provided by Reiter, Dobmeyer, and Hunter (2018; abbreviations indicated by ellipses):
“The model incorporates…a behavioral health consultant (BHC)…to extend and support the primary care provider (PCP) and team. Specifically, the BHC assists in the care of patients of any age and with any health condition (Generalist); strives to intervene with all patients on the day they are referred (Accessible); shares clinic space and resources and assists the team in various ways (Team-based); engages with a large percentage of the clinic population (High volume); helps improve the team’s biopsychosocial assessment and intervention skills and processes (Educator); and is a routine part of biopsychosocial care (Routine). To accomplish these goals, BHCs use focused (15-30 min) visits to assist with specific symptoms or functional improvement. …Patients are followed by the BHC and PCP until functioning or symptoms begin improving; at that point, the PCP resumes sole oversight of care but re-engages the BHC at any time, as needed…”
REQUIREMENTS
PsyD, LISW. We highly value experienced BHC’s, but also welcome motivated and passionate clinicians with no primary care experience to apply. We will send you to Cherokee’s BHC Training Academy at our expense, and provide ongoing training/consultation to ensure your success. Similarly, we are open to providing post-doctoral supervision to clinical psychology Ph.D./Psy.D. graduates who have a firm intention of remaining with us after licensure.
