What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician/Optician position at Heartland Eye Care?
Responsibilities:
- Assist optometrists in providing patient care
- Perform preliminary eye function testing such as visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception
- Take patient medical history and document relevant information
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Administer eye drops or medications as directed by healthcare providers
- Perform diagnostic tests such as tonometry, visual field testing, and retinal imaging
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Educate patients on proper eye care and contact lens use
Fit, measure and dispense eyeglass frames. Understand ophthalmic lens properties and prescriptions.
Skills:
- Transcribe medical documentation accurately and efficiently
- Maintain organized and accurate medical records
- Possess knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and systems
- Familiarity with medical terminology specific to ophthalmology
- Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Ability to type quickly and accurately
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals
