What are the responsibilities and job description for the English Department Head position at Hebrew Academy of Cleveland?
We are looking for a Department Head for our English program. This will be a new position for our team and will include teaching of classes as well as leading the middle school department. The department head will answer directly to the principal.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledgeable in best practices in teaching of content area, differentiated instruction, and engaging all students in a meaningful manner
- Be a team player by demonstrating a willingness to facilitate open communication with colleagues, parents, and administration
- At least 3-5 years of teaching experience
- Familiarity with Project Based Learning strategies
Responsibilities:
- Facilitating in the development of measurable and meaningful objectives within the department that support school wide goals
- Develop, with teaching team, common unit assessments and analyze data to ensure individual student mastery of topics
- Lead and set agenda for regular PLC meetings to help develop all aspects of the department
- Works with special education department to facilitate success of all students by modifying expectations as needed
- Facilitating department discussions on student performance data for the purpose of curricular or instructional modification
- Inventory curricular tools and materials
- Promote student an department achievements to parents and broader community
- Assist substitute teachers in carrying out their assigned duties and communicate any concerns to administration
- Recommend and lead meaningful Professional Development opportunities
- Develops materials for state testing requirements
- Help in recruiting of additional teammates as needed
