HEFFLER CONTRACTING GROUP (HCG) is an established General Contractor within the Federal Construction Sector, Located in El Cajon, California. We primarily support and perform contracts with USACE, NAVFAC, DHS, NASA, and other Federal Agencies.

We have a very exciting opportunity for a Construction SITE SAFETY HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO) to manage federal government projects in and around state of California, Nevada & Arizona. This opportunity is ideal for the right team player who seeks long term employment with a company who takes care of their own.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position will support primarily Department of Defense (DoD) clients on federal facilities. This is a great opportunity for the ideal candidate who has proven experience, knowledge, ability to work well with a team, integrity and willing to be a leader on their assigned projects. Position is responsible for managing and adhering to HCG Corporate Safety Program supporting Vertical Construction Projects from $1M to $50M in value size. Represent HEFFLER CONTRACTING GROUP with integrity and assist in building a bridge of trust between our clients and HEFFLER.

· Work in conjunction with the Client, Field and Corporate staff to ensure SAFETY on all project assigned is the priority.

· Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with all applicable OSHA and U.S. Navy requirements and regulations, and the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1.

· Have the responsibility for the execution and continued development of the company overall safety program.

· Monitor performance standards for all projects assigned

· Prepare all required Safety Plans, AHA(s) for projects.

· Maintain and instill a culture of safety within the projects assigned

· Work closely with the Project Manager.

· Work as a member of the project team, including subcontractors, to ensure implementation and continuous monitoring of the provisions of the Project Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).

· Serves as or manage "Competent and/or Qualified Person" for activities including, but not necessarily limited to; Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Trenching, Lead Hazards, Hot Work, and Excavation.

· Maintaining a safe construction site through direction and training of workers, ensuring all persons on the job site are wearing PPE and safety equipment and written documentation to maintain accountability of sub-contractor work force.

· Provide full-time support in the field, on the construction projects, to assure operations are planned and conducted in a safe manner. Work to be sure key subcontractors are prepared ahead of time, have directions to the job site, and perform all work with the utmost quality safely

· Interface with Government Safety & Health Officer on site safety & health issues and coordinate preventative measures.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 6 YEARS OF PROVEN SUCCESFUL FEDERAL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE AS AN ONSITE SITE SAFETY HEALTH OFFICER.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be willing to work as a team on all projects assigned.
  • Must be organized and proactive in all aspects of Safety.
  • Must have provable successful experience as a Lead SSHO on past USACE and or NAVFAC projects.
  • Must be capable of reading, interpreting and fully understanding plans, specifications, reference codes and standards.
  • Must be diligent in the SSHO processes daily and completing tasks which can adversely affect the safety and well-being of all personnel.
  • Must be proficient in reviewing provisions that have been made to provide required control, inspection, and testing.
  • Capable of preparing APP PLANS
  • Capable of preparing AHA’s
  • Must be able to Initially setup and perform daily management of SSHO functions.
  • Must be organized and diligent in all communications and project documentation to preclude any safety issues and or deficiencies.
  • Communicate with Contracting office in a positive and solutions-oriented manner.
  • Lead required meetings with all parties in a professional, organized, and well-informed manner.
  • Be on top of all daily and forecasted work activities.
  • Be consistent with all required inspections, have a proactive rather than reactive approach to all aspects of Safety.
  • Have a partnering attitude in resolving all situations, respond promptly to customer needs, and always place the client’s interest at the forefront of all conflicts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 40-HOUR OSHA HAZWOPER TRAINING & 30-HOUR OSHA TRAINING, ALL CERTS MUST BE CURRENT.
  • USACE EM 385-1-1
  • Proven 5 years’ experience as a SSHO manager within construction.
  • Documented and provable safety training in the last five years.
  • Must have USACE and NAVFAC proven experience.
  • Must be Proficient with Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills, Procore knowledge a plus.
  • CSP Certification a plus
  • Degree in Safety & Health a plus
  • Must have experience using QCS-RMS 3.0.
  • Skillful communicator in both verbal and in written communication.
  • Excellent writing skills with proper grammar.
  • A great listener who can communicate professionally with an open and positive approach.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test/physical/background check.
  • Must be experience in: Large Building Construction (Vertical) and knowledgeable in site construction (Horizontal).
  • Must be tenacious, persistent, and structured when it comes to Documentation, organization and following up with all personnel, subcontractors, project team.

  • Must be willing to travel to conduct safety audits on any projects assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
