Description
Heidtman Steel Products is looking for a Logistics Manager to join our Resource Planning team at our Bedford location in Erie, MI. The Logistics Manager will serve as liaison between Heidtman Steel and all external logistics providers (rail and third-party trucking/3PL) to ensure the delivery of a quality product, on time, at the quoted freight cost and manage any internal logistics coordinators/clerks required to support those deliveries.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Communicate with sales/monitor transport lists to verify upcoming required deliveries.
- Coordinate with purchasing, scheduling, operations (shipping), and 3PL as necessary to expedite physical material movements needed to ensure the above deliveries.
- Track metrics that support OTD at best freight cost (lead time to 3PL, light loads, stop-offs).
- Create improvement plans.
- Approve premium freight charges, TONU (truck ordered not used), detention.
- Track logistics attributable late deliveries, assign reason codes, create improvement plans.
- Monitor/investigate lanes where base cost significantly exceeds market costs.
- Work with 3PL to expand and elevate carrier base.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience is required
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or Transportation Management preferred.
- Understanding of trucking industry and legal load limits.
- Strong math, geography, and computer skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills and commensurate ability to interact with diverse levels of employees and functional areas.
