Position Purpose:
Manage plant material flow and shipping, receiving, and inventory control. Report to the Plant Manager and support all logistical activities to provide optimum manufacturing performance. Assist with improvements in production reporting, such as electronic data collection, overall data integrity, and project validations.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and assure mainframe based MRP system is in place and being utilized. Structure system to accurately transact material use and location. Administer cycle count procedures and supervise investigations of discrepancies.
- Maintain MRP system integrity at the 98% level or better.
- Assists with the control of plant inventory to optimize turnover and minimize investment. Administer cycle count program and WIP audits to obtain accurate inventory values.
- Support Buyers and Supply Chain Associates in monitoring safety stock levels, establishing order policies and JIT programs to balance inventory availability with low levels of inventory.
- Direct the shipping and receiving functions to provide error free outbound shipments expeditiously. Ship customer sales orders complete and by the requested ship date. Support customer service with sales order status communications. Ensure accurate accounting for received goods.
- Coordinate receipt and availability of purchased and fabricated components to support production schedule. Act as liaison with Customer Service, Marketing, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel regarding material related issues in a timely manner.
- Initiate ECNs to support Materials’ and Operations’ objectives. Direct participation by materials group in all APQP functions.
- Direct the functional activities of the position to achieve plant OTD levels of 98% or higher.
- Communicate material flow issues and solutions to the Plant Manager and staff.
- Assists with managing obsolete and excess materials.
- Communicates all material flow / handling changes to plant personnel, manages inventory to minimize obsolescence. (example: JIT / FIFO)
- Manages salary shipping and materials associates.
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Business or related filed.
- APICS certification a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in strategic roles in manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as manager in manufacturing environment.
- Extensive knowledge of master scheduling, inventory control, MRP, and purchasing.
- Transportation industry experience with knowledge of machining and assembly processes desired.
- Ability to prioritize, plan and execute multiple responsibilities, projects, and activities.
- Excellent written, verbal and computer skills. Team-oriented leader who emphasizes continuous improvement and staff development.
- Ability to extract, analyze, and apply data from MRP to Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Previous QAD experience preferred.
- Knowledge and implementation of continuous improvement, six sigma, and lean manufacturing/5S.
- Occasional travel.
