The Public Health Protection Area of Health and Human Services is seeking an Supervising Environmentalist to join their team.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 479 Prairie Center Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55344 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.About the position type:

In this position, you will:
- Develop, plan, implement, review and evaluate an environmental health program.
- Determine program priorities including short and long-term work plans.
- Develop and monitor program performance measures.
- Coordinate provision of various County environmental programs with other county departments, governmental agencies, external entities, and contractors.
- Represent Hennepin County in program coordination with Federal, State and local staff.
- Ensure that staff has the necessary training and equipment to carry out assignments safely and effectively.
- Respond to citizen/customer complaints or questions regarding services or programs.
- Organize and chair committees related to critical environmental or environmental health projects.
- Prepare reports on program activities and outcome achievement.
- Prepare and recommend budget proposals utilizing supporting program data and documents.
- Select and develop staff, plan and assign work, and evaluate employee performance.
Need to have:
- Bachelor's degree in physical or natural sciences; environmental health, industrial hygiene, public health, engineering, public or business administration; or a closely related field.
- Four years of experience in environmental or environmental health related programs.
- A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County drivers permit, and access to reliable transportation.
- Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian or eligibility to take the exam within one year of hire. For test information please visit https://www.health.state.mn.us/communities/environment/sanitarian/app.html.
- Experience:
- Implementing management methods and procedures.
- Prepare records and reports.
- With data collection and data analysis
- Using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Supervising and directing staff
- Planning and preparing a budget for a unit.
- Reviewing work proposals and plans prepared by staff and external consultants.
- Knowledge of:
- Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations.
- County ordinances; permit, license, regulatory and enforcement procedures.

- Organize and coordinate programs with other County staff as well as other government jurisdictions.
- Establish, understand, interpret and apply policies and procedures.
- Analyze problems and develop and carry out effective courses of actions.
Employees receive formal and on-the-job training in techniques and procedures essential to conducting various environment health and safety inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities.
