HJF is seeking a SAS Programmer Analyst II to be responsible for programming support of research data management and analytic requirements. This includes database and statistical programming, programming for standard report generation, ad-hoc queries, analyses, data manipulation, extraction and export. Is familiar with commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the clinical data management/analysis field. Uses intermediate experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
This position will be in support The Department of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences]. The Scope of Care Provision in the Military Health System project is a retrospective data analysis of the Military Health System Data Repository to determine descriptive statistics related to the common pathologies and locations of care delivered by provider subtype (Physician by specialty, Nurse Practitioner, Physicians Assistant, Independent Duty Corpsmen, Independent Duty Medical Technician, Advanced Combat Specialist, counselor, Social Worker, Psychologist) within the Military Health System.
Note: This site requires that the incumbent has lived in the US for three out of the past five years.
Responsibilities
- Provides programming for data extraction, edit logic checks, data listings, summary statistics, analyses, reports, tabulations, creation of analytic data sets, and ad-hoc queries.
- Mentors junior programmer analysts.
- Participates in development and implementation of Quality Assurance practices.
- Assist Principal Investigators and Researchers in retrieving and incorporating data from multiple sources using SAS, SQL or other query tools.
- Participates in modeling research protocols on in-house data management software packages and produces data set documentation.
- Develops and/or reviews data management plans and data use agreements; data entry instructions; standard operating procedures; case report forms and case report form annotation; other department and protocol related documentation.
- Adheres to a policy of strict confidentiality concerning all documents, data, and information maintained within the department.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the SAS programming language, especially basic SAS procedures (CIMPORT, COMPARE, CONTENTS, CPORT, EXPORT, FORMAT, FREQ, IMPORT, MEANS or UNIVARIATE, PRINT, REPORT, SORT, SQL) and the DATA step and the ability to perform programming tasks in a SAS/Oracle environment Experience in handling large data sets.
- Awareness of data quality issues, and familiarity with programming in a research environment.
- Familiarity with personal computers and the ability to learn systems necessary for job completion. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets on personal computer systems.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team setting, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; Detail oriented; Possesses problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required with a concentration in statistics, computer science, or related research field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
