What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Heritage Cooperative?

Overview:

Heritage Cooperative is looking for a dynamic, self-starter to join our Accounting and Finance team. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the Controller in month-end closings, and be responsible for daily cash movement and transactions, reconciling bank accounts, general ledger management, work with auditors, and communicating with internal and external partners.

You will report directly to the Controller and work with a dynamic team and growing company, providing career growth opportunities. You would be a great match if you are proficient in Excel, understand and can adhere to accounting principles in a multi business segment organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Supports the Controller in month-end close including balance sheet reconciliations, reviewing and maintaining the general ledger, and preparing and entering journal entries.
  • Complete and account for daily cash movement and transactions.
  • Reconciles bank accounts, assists in preparation of deposits, and provides support with other financial accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance and gathers necessary information.
  • Provides prompt and professional correspondence to internal and external requests.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and implements solutions in partnership with the Controller.
  • Completes state sales and fuel tax filings quarterly, assists in 1099 filings yearly.
  • Maintains accounting documents, records, and various reports.
  • Performs special projects and analysis as requested.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting
  • 1-3 years of public or private accounting experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
