The Heritage Health Dentist provides high quality dental care in accordance with national guidelines to all Heritage Health patients in a culturally competent manner. The Heritage Health dentist strives to provide dental care consistent with Heritage Health's mission statement. The Heritage Health's dentist examines and treats patients, regardless of age or sex; ensures proper dental care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery; diagnosis and treatment of injuries and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures; examines patients to assess condition, utilizing x-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic procedures; cleans, fills, extracts, and replaces teeth; provides preventative dental services to patients and education in oral and dental hygiene; requests necessary tests and follow-up visits and refers patients to specialists, as necessary.
Requirements:- Completion of ADA accredited dental program required: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
- Active Idaho dental license.
- BLS certification required.
- Certification through Drug Enforcement Agency and valid Idaho licenses required; must be able to secure credentialing through identified agencies; effective oral and written communication skills required; previous experience working with under-served population desired.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Schedules dental care visits per agreed upon FTE status.
- Ability to see a minimum of 14 patients per clinical day with 2 Dental Assistants as support staff
- Provides routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, crown and bridge construction, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and oral surgery as well as various preventative services as directed by the Chief Medical Director or Dental Director.
- Performs assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
- Administers and prescribes anesthetics and medications.
- Initiates and interprets x-ray and lab studies.
- Ensures all prescriptions and advice regarding medications is in accordance with accepted community standards and Heritage Health protocols.
- Exercises professional judgement in the performance of services provided consistent with the organizations policies and the standards of the dental profession
- Understands and follows infection control procedures, consistent with OSHA and OSAP standards.
- Reviews medical histories at each visit; consults with primary health care provider as indicated.
- Diagnoses dental disease, oral pathology, and develops a written treatment plan, prioritizing treatments.
- Demonstrates high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
- Charts all pathologic conditions and reports findings to the patient (caregiver or guardian).
- Explains course of treatment to the patient; solicits his/her input and agreement.
- Balances treatment plan on patient's needs and desires, and in conjunction with patient and clinic resources.
- Conducts follow-up patient care
- Refers patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate and follow up communication as needed.
- Provides dental and oral health education to patients and families.
- Actively participates in community dental programs.
- Utilizes and monitors effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the delivery of services and recommend dental equipment changes and additions.
- Participates in the development and implementation of provider productivity standards.
- Assists in reviewing clinic productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Represents Heritage Health at conferences, meetings and continuing education programs.
- Participates in precepting dental assisting students, dental hygiene students and dental students as required.
- Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, physicians and patients
- Builds relationships that foster a high level of customer service.
- Manages difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information and displays knowledge of HIPAA requirements
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Attends all monthly staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Assists with in-service and on-going training of clinical staff.
