| SHIFT: | Monday–Friday, some Saturdays, flexible schedule; typically, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM | REPORTS TO: | SVP, Sr. Credit officerSummary The position of Credit Analyst is responsible for gathering and analyzing credit information on current and potential borrowers; determines the advisability of granting credit for diversified types of loans; assists loan officers in writing loan requests; promotes business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services Essential Duties · Performing pre-qualification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industry trends. · Gathering data from customers, internal and outside sources; prepares spreadsheets and analyzes financial information including financial statements and tax returns; contacts customers for additional information and clarification of data. · Prepare analysis of new loan requests and renewal of credit facilities, which includes, but is not limited to, financial statement analysis, income / cash flow analysis, guarantor analysis, and collateral analysis, as well as, an assessment of the 5 C’s of Credit and the overall strengths and weaknesses of the proposed loan. Prepare written analysis that will be used by lending officers and approval authority to evaluate the degree of risk of the requested loan. · Coordinating the processing of approved loans; obtains sufficient information and/or documentation from customers; solves problems relative to processing and servicing of loans. · Informs loan officers when up-to-date financial statements are needed for commercial accounts · Develops knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors and competition · Monitoring of current borrowing relationships. This will entail review of financial or other information provided by the borrower, including, but not limited to:
  • Monitoring borrowing bases, including double checking calculations, verification of assets on the borrowing base against supporting schedules and spreading the financials

o Interim construction inspections (Residential and Commercial)

o Floorplan inspections

o Monitoring construction draws on interim construction loans

o Monitoring financial covenants

o Analyzing financials and preparing financial spreads on loans for which periodic financial reporting is required
  • Duties relating to the Bank’s Real Estate Appraisal and Evaluation function:
  • Order Real Estate Appraisals from third party appraisers using the Bank’s Appraisal Engagement Form
  • Review Real Estate Appraisals for accuracy, adequacy, and reasonableness, as well as, compliance with Appraisal Regulations.
  • Prepare Real Estate Evaluations consistent with Bank Loan Policy & Procedures and safe and sound banking practices.
  • Review Real Estate Evaluations prepared by other Bank personnel
  • Assist in the preparation of reports to management and the board of directors as required from time to time.
  • Perform due diligence, including file review and financial analysis, on potential note purchases (both FDIC loan sales and non-FDIC loan sales); Present analysis to Senior Credit Analyst.
  • Prepare term sheets (including list of items needed) on prospective loan requests
  • Prepare Loan approval letters on approved loans

  • Assist lenders and lending assistants in clearing technical exceptions (TEs) on loans within the Bank’s loan portfolio. Assist in executing the Bank’s Loan Forbearance strategy.

  • Assist in the early detection of problem loans
  • Assist in the underwriting of Electronic Payment Product customers, including merchant processing, Remote Deposit Capture, and ACH. Perform initial underwriting on electronic payment product applications, as well as, annual reviews.
  • Adhere to Compliance Policies of Herring Bank, as well as, Compliance Regulations

  • May represent the Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank's image and develop additional business.

  • Reinforces the application of superior customer service through his or her own example along with appropriate follow through with involved customers and employees.

  • Assist loan officers in the preparation of Quarterly Problem Loan Status Reports

  • Take loan committee minutes for the Amarillo Loan Committee

  • Must be organized, self-motivated and team player

  • Ability to operate a personal computer

  • Answer telephones, answer questions and direct callers to proper Bank personnel

  • Punctuality and good attendance are imperative

  • Cross-sell the Bank's other products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff as indicated.

  • Foster teamwork in the branch or department to ensure a positive overall customer experience and positive work environment.

  • Participate in bank training to enhance skill set and meet compliance requirements.

  • Exempt - Ability to work 45 hours a week and complete tasks assigned.


Minimum Requirements

Must be able to pass a background and credit check.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as accounting, finance or agricultural economics; school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.

  • Basic experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas.

  • Basic knowledge of commercial, construction, real estate and consumer loan processing.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.

  • Basic knowledge of related state and federal loan regulations and other Bank lending policies.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and members of the general public.

  • Basic skills in computer operation, and word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Basic math skills; calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.

  • Excellent social and networking skills to support the community bank image

  • Complete in-house training based on requirements set up for this position

  • Proven ability to provide an Excellent Customer Experience

  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, speak clearly to customers and employees.

  • Must follow company policies, all state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines

  • Current driver's license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.



The incumbent must be able to perform this position safely, without endangering the health or safety to their selves or others.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The position of Credit Analyst is not responsible for the supervision of any employee(s).

Environment and Physical Activity

The environment for this position is an open office that is mostly clean and comfortable and may include driving a Bank or personal-owned vehicle approximately 10% of the time; which includes exposure to the outside weather elements and moving mechanical parts. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 10 pounds), carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), driving, sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.



The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, copy and fax machines, adding machine (calculator), computer terminal, personal computer and related printers.

The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate to reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, customer contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, training, and multiple concurrent tasks.
