What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Software Architect (Omen Team/PC Gaming Services) position at Hewlett Packard Careers?

We are looking for a talented Software Architect to join an exciting development team focusing on software development for our OMEN line of gaming-focused software products!

In this role, you'll provide the technical leadership needed for several local software engineering teams and influence other teams on a global level.  You will help us advance our capability by demonstrating your passion for software best practices, innovative solutions, and drive continuous improvements to develop BETTER, cleaner, faster, stronger gaming-focused software.

This opportunity will rely on your deep architecture subject matter knowledge including technologies, theories and techniques. You will have the opportunity to collaboratively contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas.

You will successfully operate in the most complex disciplines, disciplines in which the company must shine in order to be successful. We will look to you to lead and support large, cross-division functional teams or projects that affect the organization's long-term goals and objectives, where you will be able to provide highly-innovative solutions. You will collaboratively participate in cross-division, multi-function teams. Provides mentoring and guidance to less experienced employees. Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and criteria for achieving objectives. Develops strategy and sets functional policy and direction. Acts as a functional manager within area of expertise but does not manage other employees as a primary job function.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Enjoys an R&D environment creating new features and new products.

  • Must be collaborative and must thrive in a team environment.

  • Needs to have a passion to develop, willingness to learn, try new things, and staying current with technology.

Critical skills:

  • Provides architectural vision and leads other senior level engineers to the optimal engineering solution

  • Very strong knowledge of C# development or other OO language (Java)

  • Experienced with win32 and/or UWP development

  • Experienced with cloud development creating microservices

  • Excellent understanding of cloud infrastructure and IaaS services like AWS

  • Writes reusable, testable, and efficient user interface code

  • Knows general tools such as Visual Studio, Git & GitHub, and Jenkins

  • Understanding of unit test development and mock objects

  • Knows agile processes, CI/CD, and the Gitflow Workflow

  • Familiar with a variety of software patterns and principles

  • Considers themselves a gamer and is knowledgeable with competitive gaming and esports.

  • General knowledge:

  • Understanding of client-server architecture

  • Consuming RESTful APIs

  • Understanding of base security concepts

  • Interprocess communication

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of C

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience designing software applications running on multiple platform types.

  • Understanding of software applications testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.

  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and cultivates organization-wide architectures and methodologies for software applications design and development across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.

  • Identifies and evaluates exciting new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships for alignment with technology roadmap and business value; collaboratively creates plans for integration and update into architecture.

  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.

  • Leverages recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to collaboratively influence decisions of executive business leadership, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members to set an example of software applications design and development innovation and excellence.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.

  • Typically 10 years experience.

The estimated range of compensation for this job at the time of this posting is $175,000 to $187,000.  This position may be eligible for incentive pay, for openings where this is applicable.

Where legally permitted, an offer of employment is conditional upon you providing proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (as defined by the CDC) as of your first day of employment.
