Overview
Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning division is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our high-tech engineering and manufacturing company that is committed to customer service excellence and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Systems Engineering, the position will be of interest to someone with proven planning, collaboration and product development strengths who thrives on seeing exciting projects through to completion.
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be involved in all stages of the product development cycle. You will provide systems expertise through product development activities, such as requirements management, system architectural design, design trade-off studies, as well as the planning, coordination, and execution of systems integration. This role requires collaboration with a cross-functional product development team to identify and mitigate risk, and to ensure that the design meets its functional, quality, schedule, and cost targets.
This role is directly responsible for the requirements, design, and verification of in-vehicle, electronic actuation systems for our drive-by-wire products.

Responsibilities
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Leading the technical aspects of projects in collaboration with the Chief Engineer, Project Manager and a team of subject matter experts
- Evaluating customer requirements and operational use cases to define and decompose system functional and performance requirements
- Developing and designing system architectural design trade-off studies
- Assessing cross-domain dependencies, including the simulation and modelling of system components to allow data-driven decisions for optimal system performance
- Continuously evaluating technical risk within the project and proactively working with the team to mitigate
- Systems integration planning and coordination
- Ensuring compliance of the design with the system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing competing business requirements such as cost and time to market
- Completing system and product analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes and best practices
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- B.Sc. in Engineering or Computer Science
- 7 years experience in a high technology, product development environment
- 3 years in a Systems Engineering related role
- Proven understanding and execution of traditional systems engineering principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to achieve Canadian Controlled Goods security status

Nice-to-Have:
- Familiarity with electronic actuation of vehicle-control systems, automotive-grade controllers in safety-critical applications, as well as CAN and ROS interfaces
- Experience with multi-sensor systems and technologies, including GNSS, IMU, Laser, LiDAR, RADAR, ultrasonic, vision/optical, etc.
- Proven experience working with system integrators and OEMs
- Proven application of reliability engineering principles, including FMEA, MTBF, and RCA
- Product development experience for operation in harsh environmental environments, such as military, marine, agricultural, and automotive environments
- Expertise with one or more requirements management tools, such as Polarion or DOORS
- Well versed in developing and managing verifiable requirements for systems, hardware and software
- Knowledge and experience in product/system integration, verification and validation
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and ASPICE process standards
- Awareness of architectural frameworks (e.g. UAF, DoDAF, MODAF, TOGAF), Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and related tools such as Enterprise Architect (EA) or CORE
