High Point Academy is a charter school serving students pre-school through 8th grade. Located in Aurora, CO, just north of Green Valley Ranch (10 minutes from Denver International Airport), HPA serves an ethnically diverse student population which includes 26% linguistically diverse students and 54% of students that qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. HPA is an award-winning wellness school whose curriculum and classes promote healthy lifestyle choices.


General Description

Core Competencies for HPA Teachers:

  • Teaching and Learning: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach. The elementary teacher is an expert in literacy and mathematics and is knowledgeable in all other content that he or she teaches (e.g., science, social studies, arts, physical education, or world languages). The secondary teacher has knowledge of literacy and mathematics and is an expert in his or her content endorsement area(s).
  • Meeting Needs of Diverse Learners: Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.
  • Climate and Culture: Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.
  • Professionalism: Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is regularly required to walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, noise levels do increase with student and parent traffic at peak times of the day.


MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate verbally, and in writing, coordinate, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, instruct, and compute. The employee is frequently required to compare, copy, compile, and negotiate. The employee frequently disseminates information to various stakeholders, making decisions for the organization, employees, and students.


Other duties: As a community school, we regularly plan opportunities to engage with our community outside of school hours. As an employee of HPA, you are expected to participate in these opportunities once a month. All community celebrations will be on the school calendar for all of you to plan accordingly. Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, master's degree preferred.
  • Colorado Teaching License or eligible for one
  • Commitment to equitable and culturally responsive practices
  • Demonstrating professional practices in all situations
  • Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with the purpose and vision of the school

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience teaching with the appropriate age range
  • Demonstrated success building partnerships with families that lead to positive student outcomes for all students.
  • Demonstrated academic growth in reading/math on benchmark assessment

Days/Hours:

  • 188 Day position
  • 7:30 am-4:15 pm, daily
  • Monthly school-wide community events (ex. Back to school night, awards assemblies, etc)
