High Point University is recruiting for an Associate Director of Athletic Communications. This Associate Director position manages all media relations, publications, social media and website content for assigned sports and ensures positive representation of the University. The successful candidate for this position also serves as secondary media contact for men’s basketball. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's degree in a field such as journalism or communications or equivalent experience required Experience and Training: Minimum one year experience in college sports information or a related field Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Strong writing, editing and design (print and web) skills Creativity in writing and design Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite Working knowledge of web site management and multimedia production Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members of the media, coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, parents, fans and alumni Ability to work independently as well as lead projects Ability to work flexible schedule including late night and weekend hours ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serves as the main point of contact with the media for assigned sports; serves as on-campus host for media; coordinates media interviews Designs social media graphics for assigned sports, utilized pre-game, in-game and post-game Builds relationships with and pitches stories to local, regional and national media contacts Determines what should be communicated and how; gathers information, interprets it and creates media content which reflects positively on the university Manages all athletic communications department operations for assigned sport(s) Tabulates official statistics and creates game notes for assigned sport(s), using personal judgment about content Attends athletic events of assigned sport(s) (home and away) as required Supervises student workers at assigned sports’ home contests; directs part-time staff (announcers, scoreboard operators, photographers, etc.) during games when it pertains to athletic communications materials and scripts Maintains historical records and statistics for assigned sport(s) Produces content for athletics section of High Point University Magazine Takes photos and videos, and works with multimedia coordinator to create digital, multimedia and video board content Manages award nomination/selection processes for assigned sport(s) Creates all content, edits, designs layout and produces records books, other publications for assigned sport(s) Creates and produces game programs for assigned sport(s) as required Designs and edits content for assigned sport(s) on highpointpanthers.com, including news and feature stories, photos, rosters, schedules and multimedia content Shoots video and produces highlight videos when possible Works with students in HPU Qubein School of Communication to produce additional video content Assists in maintaining official HPU Athletics accounts on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube Conducts social media training for assigned sports Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers Other duties as assigned ACCOUNTABILITY: Creates and produces articles, publications and website content and ensures the University is well represented in the media Manages all athletic communications operations for assigned sport(s) Supervises student workers at assigned sports’ home contests; directs part-time staff (announcers, scoreboard operators, photographers, etc.) during games when it pertains to Sports Information materials and scripts For additional information regarding this position, please contact Andrew Sanchez, Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, at dsanchez@highpoint.edu.
