What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chipper Cab Operator position at Highland Pellets?
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates grapples loader and chipping machine to reduce logs and logging waste to wood chips.
- Adjusts speed and opening of feed rolls according to log diameter, and activates feed rolls that pushes logs through chipper unit.
- Monitors gauges and adjusts speed and opening of feed rolls to prevent equipment strain.
- Replaces defective chipping knives, using wrenches and feeler gauges.
- Control opening of debarker that removes bark from log before chipping.
- Performs and completes all items listed on preventative maintenance sheets at the beginning of each shift.
- Effectively communicate to all team members and management any equipment deficiencies.
- Meticulous attention to detail; able to follow instruction both written and verbal.
- Ensure workers adhere to local, state and federal codes and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Two years’ experience heavy equipment experience.
- One year of in plant manufacturing experience.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, shovel, rake and any necessary requirements to keep are clean and safe.
- Ability to work extended hours to includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work outdoors, rotating shifts, and lift 50 pounds required.
