What are the responsibilities and job description for the Access Nurse position at Highlands Oncology Group?
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Access Nurse has expertise and skill in vascular access such as starting peripheral IVs and accessing vascular access devices (VAD) such as an implanted infusion port.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Including, but is not limited to the following:
- Access patients for blood draws prior to treatment
- Troubleshoot complications or issues with vascular access devices
- May perform or assist with de-clotting of vascular access devices
- May place a peripheral IV as needed
- Triage sick patients scheduled for blood draws. Initiate emergency management or take appropriate action as needed.
- Communicates assessment to physician or members of the healthcare team
- Coordinate patient care activities with Social Workers and other departments
- Can communicate and delegate tasks to other members of the healthcare team in an appropriate and professional manner
- Is competent in the use of the EMR and patient documentation
- Provides and maintains patient confidentiality (HIPAA)
- Knowledgeable in universal precautions and sterile technique
- Will keep all licenses, certifications, and BLS current
- Maintain continuing education hours as needed to maintain licensure
- Demonstrates ongoing professional growth through and participation in relevant education endeavors and appropriate associations such as the Oncology Nursing Society
- Adheres to clinic standards, policies, and procedures, as well as being cost effective
- Able to work independently, as well as a team member
· Maintains high standard of professional performance, behavior, and appearance.
· Attends nursing meetings, or reads the minutes when unable to attend
· This position requires the employee to possess a combination of nursing skills, physical endurance, mental alertness, and knowledge, as well as the ability to get along with others.
QUALITICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Possess a valid and current Arkansas state license
- CPR certification required
