Minimum Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- Preferred: Master’s degree.
- Two years of experience working in secondary or higher education.
- Two years experience in career coaching, guidance, counseling and/or advising.
- Ability to be detail oriented.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict as it arises.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and other standard computing equipment.

- Advises and provides career guidance to students; advises students on the selection of a major field of study and pathways. Assists students with understanding the advising plan to ensure that students have an understanding of their MyHC student portal, billing, transcripts, and instructions on how to contact their advisor.
- Maintains current referral information for students requesting assistance from outside resources, including scholarship information, financial assistance, career resources, and other resources.
- Coordinates services with other colleges and universities to assist students with transferring and provides transfer support services to assist students with transferability.
- Maintains services and assistance for students with special and/or designated needs, including, but not limited to, the processing of accommodation, tutoring, and developmental requests. Selects, trains, and supervises tutors employed in the peer tutoring program.
- Designs, coordinates, delivers, and supports student activities, programs, workshops, and/or assessments sponsored by the Advising and Success Center.
- Assists with the development, distribution, and maintenance of an advisors’ handbook, including providing training to faculty advisors.
- Imparts academic rules and regulations to students to include their changing academic needs. Provides referral resources such as tutoring to assist students with completing their coursework. Identifies students who are at risk of academic probation and implements appropriate intervention strategies.
- Coordinates online support services for online students by establishing a communication plan, networking with online faculty, and serving as the troubleshooter for online classes.
- Provides support to Hill College students through aiding in registration, pre-advisement, add/drops, change of majors, resignations, testing and TSI requirements.
- Consults with all areas of administration and faculty to ensure student success.
- Travel to other Hill College locations as needed.

- Administers tests as needed for the Testing Center.
- Assists in campus activities as needed.
- Weekend and evening work required during designated times.
- Serves on institutional workgroups as directed.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license.
- Sedentary/Light work; exerting up to 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
