What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Inspector position at Hirschbach Motor Lines?
Job Summary
The Equipment Inspector is responsible for understanding DOT and Company compliance standards as well as being able to create work orders. They will also be responsible for doing on the spot repairs in conjunction with the inspections to limit the amount of time spent in the bay. The Equipment Inspector will consistently communicate with the Shop on incoming repairs, and work with The Spot Team on loaded trailer arrivals and equipment status updates.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Makes inspections of units entering and exiting the yard to ensure the mechanical compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements
- Inspect all incoming loaded and empty trailers prior to being moved
- Inspects tires, lights and other exterior components for safe operating conditions
- Ensures the timely and authorized entrance to and departure of equipment
- Report all information through Yard Management System and handle all Bills of Lading properly
- Ensure all information concerning incoming trailers is entered into the computer
- Communicate with all truck drivers on where to stage certain trailers
- Makes decisions on the cleanliness of the trailers, both inside and outside
- Doing lite line repairs, lights, mud flaps, tire replacements, etc
- Using computers to create work orders and update yard system
Requirements
- Being able to stand for long periods of time, frequent walking, stooping and squatting
- Ability to lift and carry up to 105 lbs
