As a Vehicle Engineer III at HNTB, you will apply and expand your design and functional knowledge base of Rail and Transit vehicle systems. You will apply what you know to assist in developing critical performance characteristics of systems, maintenance requirements, and issues that are associated with the lifecycle of rail and transit vehicles. You will support projects and potentially lead teams working on Rail and Transit projects that involve fleet capital investment, maintenance and operations, design and overhaul, forensic science, and other engineering applications. Performance of the work will be a combination of team and individual effort. Some work will be in the field while some will be office-based. An Engineer III will work independently and support mentoring and development of junior staff. An Engineer III will be self-guided and will continue to develop a full portfolio of expertise to grow within HNTB.
What You'll Do:
Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
Assist in the development of project specifications.
Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.
Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience, or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience, or
PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience
What You'll Bring:
Design review, testing and acceptance of vehicles and system for a large transit agency.
Optimizing work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement.
Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
Exhibiting a thorough understanding of the application related to engineering principles.
Managing time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
What We Prefer:
4 years' experience with Vehicle systems and sub systems
Master’s degree in Engineering
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
Professional Engineer (PE) certification
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline)

The approximate pay range for New York is $77,044.74 - $150,632.34. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
