This opportunity entails being responsible for applying planning strategies utilizing various technologies and tools to gather and analyze data, assess outcomes, and develop reporting and visuals to effectively communicate findings. This position assists with tasks for planning projects including research, studies, and documentation, coordinating with inter-disciplinary team members, from concept development through project completion.
What You’ll Do:
Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
Identifies planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios and perform project analysis.
Investigates and evaluates the planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
Coordinates internally and externally with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
Prepares maps, exhibits, and presentation materials for projects.
Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning.
Assists in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.
Drafts sections of and performs tasks related to the preparation and production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
May participate in public process and stakeholder facilitation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or
Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 1 year of relevant experience
What You’ll Bring:
Uses software specific to the planning job (i.e., travel demand modeling, traffic analysis/simulation software) with increased proficiency. Uses GIS and spreadsheets with increased proficiency for complex analysis.
Knows where to find data resources to use for the project.
Recognizes which research resources to use; assesses findings for the relevance for the project; compiles and analyzes the data for more experienced staff to review.
Contributes to reports and assists in material preparation for presentations with guidance from more experienced staff.
What We Prefer:
- Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.

The approximate pay range for Maryland is $66,367.29 - $109,031.98. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
