What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bartenders position at Hofbrauhaus Buffalo?

Bartenders:

A Bartender has a variety of duties and responsibilities, including:

  • Verify identification and age requirements of customers
  • Mix traditional and creative cocktails
  • Process payment from customers
  • Clean glasses and bar utensils
  • Make suggestions based on customer tastes and preferences
  • Record and balance cash receipts and prepare cash deposits
  • Open and maintain tabs throughout their shift
  • Build a rapport with regular customers to create a positive atmosphere

Bartenders, are you willing to help market shot-skis? Are you willing to do a little spanking?

For bartenders, are you willing to alternate shifts between service end of the bar, and walk-up middle area of the bar?

Are you bartenders willing to tip out your barbacks and runners?Bartenders, are you okay with a station up on the mezzanine? Or out on the patio? Only half of our seating is in the main Beerhall. The other half takes a little climbing!

Are you willing to learn to pronounce the 30-40 German menu items, and discuss how they are made, and how tasty they are?

All staff, do you have experience with the Toast system? It’s not a requirement, but it helps you get started quicker.

All staff, will you need a parking sticker, or are you likely to use mass transit, or get dropped off?

All staff, are you willing to look your best when you’re at work? Clean work shoes. Clean hair, hands and face.

All staff, are you willing to help build email-lists, “Stein Locker Club” memberships, “Trachten Club” (for dirndl and lederhosen-wearing customers), etc.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAPACITY – The beerhall seats 500. The main bar 150. Our mezzanine handles 200. And the private King Ludwig II Room seats up to 180 people. The raised patio area seats another 150 people, and another 250 or so can enjoy the Beer Garden. That’s a lot of people! To accommodate, we’ve built a huge kitchen with its own conveyor, and a monster brewery was imported from Austria.

TO-GO ORDERS – We are taking To-Go orders by phone, Door dash and Grub hub from our limited menu, with advance payment by credit card.

SAUSAGES – Our buddies at Wardynski’s traveled and met with the Hofbrauhaus people extensively, and were awarded the rights to produce the array of sausages and leberkase we’ll be serving at the Hofbrauhaus in Buffalo, and eventually at our gift shop to take home. We’re starting with the Nurnberger Pork Sausage, Grilled Chicken Bratwurst, Vienna Style Frankfurters. Our full menu will include Weisswurst, of course. Anyway, these are sized to fit snugly in Costanzo’s hoagie buns and go great with Weber’s mustards.

PRETZELS – These are wonderful snack items, cooked to strict German specifications.

OUR BEERS – Once they’re ready … we’ll have three staple beers: Lager, Dunkel (Dark Lager) and Hefeweizen (Wheat Beer). All are brewed according to Germany’s Reinheitsgebot Purity Laws, and contain only four ingredients: Malt, Hops, Yeast and Water!

MUNICH BEERS – We’ve imported two styles of beer from Hofbrau in Munich to help get us started while our own beers are maturing in the vats. We will pour their Oktoberfest and Hefe Weizen Beers to get us started.

GROWLERS & CROWLERS – You WILL be able to purchase GROWLERS (64-ounces glass bottles) and CROWLERS (32-ounce cans filled every day on-site), for consumption off premises.

THE MOTHER SHIP – We have a relationship with the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich, Germany, which was opened in 1589, and is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Europe, and one of the highest-grossing restaurants in the world! Also associated with Munich are Hofbrauhaus locations in Cleveland; Pittsburgh; Columbus; Newport, Kentucky; Chicago; St. Louis and Las Vegas.

HISTORY IN BUFFALO – This project has been in the works since 2013! Our original prospective location is still being remediated (underground utilities).

HANDICAP ACCESSIBILITY – We are installing a lift during October. Please note that there are no additional restrooms on the mezzanine level.

RECIPES – All of our recipes are designed under the watchful eyes of Hofbrauhaus people based at Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas. Most of our recipes are from scratch, we use very little frozen food.

BIKES – We are bike-friendly and have an area just inside the Beer Garden for locking them up.

PETS – Sorry, no pets are allowed at this point in time.

MIXED DRINKS – We will have a somewhat limited bar selection in the beginning, because of space restrictions. Our house liquors include Jim Beam, 7-Crown, Bacardi, Absolut, Dewar’s, etc.

WINES – Again, we’ll have a limited variety at the beginning, but will be featuring a nice variety of house wines by the glass, and a variety of German varietals, both domestic and imported.

ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE – As we are planning live entertainment every evening, and every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, I guess you could consider that to fit “incidental” in current New York State parlance. Buffalo and the region have some great German, Austrian and Polish Bands, as well as a slew of single and duo performers who will be gracing our stages, and strolling our halls.
