What are the responsibilities and job description for the Truss Specialist I position at Home Depot / THD?

Position Purpose:
The Truss Specialist 1 provides quality professional service that consistently meets or exceeds Company standards of excellence and customer expectations. Acts as a primary point of contact for Home Depot Associates and HD Components vendor network during the pre and post sales process.

Position is responsible for meeting and/or exceeding individual service quality goals and contributes to various related department goals.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:
  • 30% - Review and analyze specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings and related designs to determine factors affecting design of the wall, truss, and engineered wood components
  • 20% - Partner with HD Components vendor network with any questions and/or concerns related to quotes and/or designs
  • 20% - Advises Home Depot store associates on technical aspects of customer inquiries and consults with Truss Specialist 2 or Supervisor when more in-depth analysis is required
  • 10% - Assist Home Depot associates with quoting process and questions related to truss quotes and orders via phone and email
  • 10% - Effectively and routinely balance multiple customers and tasks
  • 10% - Meet or exceed scorecard requirements for productivity and quality
Nature and Scope:
This position reports to the HDQC HD Components Supervisor.
This position has 0 direct reports.

Environmental Job Requirements:
Environment:
1. Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Standard Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
3 years

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • College Degree preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of standard practices and terminology commonly found in the construction and structural engineering industries
  • Knowledge and expertise of truss design principles and practices
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and structural plans
  • Competency in basic mathematics and geometry
  • Typing proficiency

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat DC
  • Skilled at consistently providing outstanding customer service, following through on responsibilities to internal and external customers and recovering from any errors made
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects and assignments accurately, catching errors before completion despite a large workload, competing demands and a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled at effectively assessing customer audience and adjusting style and tone of verbal and written correspondence to match that of the customer
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
