In partnership with the Seattle/Puget Sound home building industry, local nonprofit organizations, and community leaders, HomeAid Puget Sound (HAPS) builds and improves housing and programmatic facilities for those at risk of and experiencing homelessness. Executive Director
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and vision and assumes operational responsibility for achieving HAPS’s mission and priorities. Highly visible and effective representation of the organization with industry leaders, nonprofit partners, volunteers and key stakeholders, and the public is essential as the Executive Director seeks to build, advance, and sustain the organization. The position reports to the Board President and the Board of Directors and works closely with the entire Board to assess and review the organization's work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Board of Directors in developing strategic plans and setting annual priorities.
- Meet or exceed annual goals and targets set by the Board of Directors.
- Manage the day-to-day operations, and manage programs of HomeAid Puget Sound.
- Establish a strong relationship with local nonprofit organizations, homeless advocates, public officials, the business community, and home building industry.
- Coordinate with HomeAid America to ensure that activities and outcomes are consistent with the national mission, model, and standards.
Board Relations and Leadership:
- Work with the Board, Executive Committee and Board President in setting and achieving strategic priorities.
- Initiate and assist in developing policy recommendations.
- Assist Board in identifying and orientation of new Board members.
- Participate and/or lead Board committees as appropriate.
- Keep the Board fully informed on the condition of the organization.
Construction Project Management:
- Help source new projects working with community nonprofits, non-profit affordable builders, church groups and other homeless service providers across the housing continuum.
- Facilitate legal and contractual documentation necessary for projects.
- Identify, coordinate, and meet regularly with the Builder Captains.
- Oversee the execution of a budgets related to the projects
- Oversee volunteers and provide structure and support for volunteer projects.
- Work with Builder Captains to obtain donations of labor and materials as needed.
- Co-manage construction budget with Builder Captain and community partners.
- Maintain Project records within Salesforce.
Philanthropy and Fundraising:
- Drive execution of the annual fund development plan.
- Recommend and implement events selected by the Board as fundraisers.
- Direct effective fund development programs with assistance from the Board for foundation grants, corporate & individual donor programs, in-kind contributions, first & third-party fundraising events.
- Build and grow relationships with donors, including donor recognition programs.
- Coordinate the involvement of Board of Directors in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors.
Marketing and Public Relations:
- Act as Chief Spokesperson for the organization, including promoting the organization through media, public speaking and appearances throughout the community and region
- Work to promote business development to establish key partnerships
- Oversee the creation and implementation of an efficient marketing plan and all marketing, promotion, and public relations materials (e.g., website, social media, annual reports, advertising, promo materials, flyers, handouts, etc.)
- Develop concepts for, and oversee the planning of, donor cultivation events, including groundbreakings and grand openings
Finance and Administration:
- Develop and monitor annual budget and financial reports, approve expenditures, and ensure proper fiscal record keeping and internal reporting.
- Ensure Affiliate compliance with applicable HomeAid, federal, state, and local policies and requirements
- Maintain corporate documents in coordination with the Executive Committee/Board of Directors.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience with a nonprofit and at least 2 years successfully managing or leading complex projects.
- An understanding of policy and program issues related to housing insecurity and homelessness and an ability to connect HomeAid Puget Sound to these solutions/opportunities within the community.
- Construction management and/or project management experience preferred.
- Excellent communication, presentation, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Strong financial administrative experience.
- Strong recruiting skills, for Board members, volunteers, and potential donors with the ability to inspire confidence and provide guidance for volunteer leaders.
- Travel as needed locally and occasionally out of state.
- Ability to meet demanding work schedule expectations.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods, stand, walk, and lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds. Valid Washington driver license.
- Must be live in or around and be familiar with the local Seattle/Puget Sound area.
