Corporate Counsel - Litigation Position Description:

The Corporate Counsel - Litigation position reports to the Associate General Counsel responsible for litigation management and oversight.
Key areas of responsibility for the position include:
- Overseeing and managing litigation across multiple disciplines, as assigned, including supervising, coordinating, and strategizing with outside counsel in connection with lawsuits and claims, and reviewing outside counsel legal billing
- Overseeing and managing responses to discovery requests, including e-discovery
- Reviewing and providing guidance on subpoena duces tecum
- Collaborating with and advising corporate and subsidiary executives, counsel, and internal management on litigation strategies, ensuring complete transparency to internal stakeholders
- Presenting periodic case assessments and risk reports to the Associate General Counsel and/or other internal stakeholders
- Identifying and communicating trends in litigation matters, claims, and regulatory complaints to the Associate General Counsel and, as assigned, coordinating with business lines and subsidiaries to develop policies and procedures to remediate actual or potential issues
- Provide support and assistance in responding to internal stakeholder requests for legal advice and related assistance and providing legal advice to managers and supervisors, performing necessary research to provide guidance on legal/litigation risk associated with operational processes and procedures
- Reviewing subsidiary litigation and conducting litigation- and claims-related due diligence on acquisition targets
- Developing company litigation and claims policies, practices, and programs; advising management on emerging legal issues
- All other duties as assigned
Corporate Counsel - Litigation Position Required Qualifications:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- In good standing and admitted to practice before at least one state bar
- At least 5 years as a practicing litigation attorney, including familiarity with rules of civil procedure
- Experience litigating state and federal cases
- Experience responding to discovery requests, including e-discovery
- Experience researching, interpreting, and articulating, orally and in writing, legal issues
- Strong legal research ability and familiarity with legal research tools (Westlaw or Lexis Nexis)
- Ability to maintain confidential and/or privileged information
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Ability to interpret and apply applicable laws and regulations
- Flexibility to simultaneously manage a wide range of projects and matters and meet deadlines in a changing and fast-paced environment
- Results driven, with attention to detail and passion for driving best practices
- Ability to present information and reports timely, clearly, and concisely to lawyers and non-lawyers
- Well-developed judgment and problem-solving skills
- Uncompromising ethics
- Some travel will be required.
Corporate Counsel - Litigation Position Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Prior experience in an in-house legal department managing complex commercial litigation
- Work history in the real estate industry
- Knowledge of federal laws and regulations governing the residential real estate industry, including RESPA and FHA, and the ability to apply the requirements to business practices
- Experience working with fully-remote supervisors and/or team members
- Proficiency in at least one of the following areas: employment claims, class action litigation, governmental investigations/enforcement actions, appellate procedure, complex commercial agreements, corporate law and governance, or mergers and acquisitions
