This position has physical and mental aspects of sedentary work in which lifting requirements are minimal. Occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or operate computers, objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. JOB SUMMARY:
Provides pastoral care with a holistic approach for all residents and oversees the chaplaincy program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Treats all information about residents, their condition, and family as confidential information.
- Complies with established Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures, and maintains established standards and practices.
- Conducts and coordinates worship services.
- Organizes and conducts Bible studies.
- Provides prayer and devotions.
- Provides on-going visitation with residents and co-workers, including hospital visits.
- Provides support to the Social Worker and Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator in meeting the emotional needs of the residents.
- Prepares to minister with the chaplain and/or pastor at the funeral or memorial service for a resident.
- Shares the comfort of Scriptures and prayer with residents, especially in times of personal need.
- Performs other functions as directed by the supervisor.
- Ordained minister.
- Ability to listen to what the resident is feeling and saying.
- Sensitivity to the varying needs of each resident in times of illness, pain and disability.
- Empathy with those who are lonely or troubled.
- Ability to serve as an “advocate” for residents, family members and co-workers.
- Relational skills in working cooperatively and supportively as an interdisciplinary team member with other co-workers.
- A minimum of five years of experience in either pastoral or chaplaincy responsibilities.
- Ability to plan, organize and effectively evaluate worship services and other religious activities.
- Initiative and ability to create new, effective religious programs.
- Clinical Pastoral Education training preferred.
