What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Technician position at Hood Lumber?
Quality Control Technicians are primarily responsible for ensuring the product adheres to TP grade standards throughout the manufacturing process. QC Technicians follow a process of checks and controls that include but are not limited to check sheet monitoring, data collection, machine calibration and cleaning, and quality testing on various products.
Expectations and Responsibilities:
- Ability to perform all quality audits in the respective department that the employee is assigned to.
- Must be able to utilize measuring devices in the appointed department.
- Become familiar with the manufacturing process and machine nomenclature respective to the allotted department.
- Perform cleaning tasks for all scanners, lasers, light curtains, and any other components relative to optimization or size control in the respective department that the employee is entrusted to.
- Ability to communicate with department supervisors effectively to induce mill downtime to correct quality deficiencies.
- Ability to troubleshoot and suggest corrective action to operators and leadership to correct quality deficiencies in the respective designated department.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify manufacturing and non-manufacturing defects relative to the department that the employee is assigned to.
- Print and utilize Lumber Track inventory reports and conduct inventory inspections in the department granted to.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a lumber manufacturing facility (Planer Mill or Sawmill).
- Understanding lumber manufacturing principles and processes.
- Experience in optimization technology (cleaning and calibrating optimization scanners).
- Strong computer skillset with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Detailed practical knowledge of lumber grading rules and practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
