What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor, Production position at Hood Packaging Corporation?

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with Production Manager and other department Superintendents and Managers to identify, prevent and resolve issues.
  • Works in conjunction with production planning to ensure customer ship dates are achieved.
  • Interfaces with production planning by providing information on machine status (such as down mechanical or electrical), provides information on engineering projects and time frames, and works with Planner on capacity needs.
  • Works in conjunction with Maintenance to coordinate preventive maintenance and other department maintenance issues to assure department and equipment are operating in top condition.
  • Initiates or revises work procedures, with the approval of the Plant Manager, as necessary to improve the effectiveness of the Production Department. Ensures that new or revised procedures are communicated properly to all effected personnel.
  • Maintains production data daily, weekly, monthly and annually and initiates and creates reports/graphs and posts metrics on department bulletin boards
  • Reviews all department exception reports and initiate corrective action as required.
  • Champions the day-to-day Production operations and provides assistance. Implements and maintains quality system in the Production department. Manages waste reduction and control in the Production area and the impact on overall plant goals.
  • Reviews and investigates customer complaints. Implements corrective action to resolve these issues.
  • Active and involved member of company Safety and ERT teams. Promotes Lean and World Class Manufacturing initiatives within areas of responsibility.
  • Promotes continuous improvement in all aspects for assigned supervisors to aid in area growth and to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.
  • Ensures that absence reports, time cards, accident reports, maintenance requests, and weekly staffing assignments, are done as required.
  • Uses computer and necessary computer software to communicate, fill out proper forms, look up information, collect data, analyze data, create reports, and multimedia presentations

Education:

  • Preferred Bachelor degree with a focus on a technical or business curriculum and 3-5 years of equivalent experience.
  • A general knowledge of all plant operations.
  • Three to Five years of supervision/management experience.
  • External and internal training classes and seminars in management, supervision, safety, quality, problem solving or technical subjects are a plus.
  • Proficiency in this position would require approximately twelve to eighteen months of training and hands on. Approves weekly time reports for Production Department.
