The Archaeologist assists the Historic Preservation Team with implementing programs related to disaster recovery, specifically for the Section 106 component of Environmental reviews and evaluations for funding granted by HUD CDBG.
The position is responsible for collaborating with team members across multiple projects.
Essential functions

Support the Environmental Business Line and Historic Preservation Team by performing and reviewing HUD CDBG-DR NEPA Section 106 reviews as it pertains to archaeology.
- Assist with the coordination with State SHPO and Tribes for Section 106 compliance.
- Work in a team environment that implements strategies, processes, and solutions.
- Assist with documenting and assessing internal controls for state and local governmental entities.
- Assist with developing proper procedures for HUD CDBG-DR NEPA environmental reviews for various state agencies.
- Communicate progress of projects, problems, and resolutions to the Historic Preservation Manager and team.
- Research and identify complex program issues or problems.
- Make recommendations for and coordinate resolutions and improvements.

Physical demands
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Archaeology or related field
- Minimum of 10 years related experience
- SOI-qualified with strong knowledge of North American history and prehistory.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe applications, including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and workflows.
- Knowledge of ESRI software ( ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, etc).
- Knowledge of North American, Southeastern history
