Preventative Maintenance Technician
Hornet Cutting Systems, LLC, a proudly American-owned and Valley Center-based, integrated OEM manufacturing business of exclusively American-made cutting machines with 35-45 employees. HCS (www.hornetcs.com) designs, manufactures, and distributes CNC controlled oxy-fuel, plasma and waterjet cutting machines out of our Valley Center, KS facility. The company started in 2003 and has become one of the leading plasmas cutting machine OEM’s in North America through innovation and customer centric business model. HCS has experienced very steady growth of its deployed equipment base over the last 15 years.
Primary purpose of job
The role is responsible for preventative maintenance service, trouble shooting, and repair of the Company’s CNC plasma, waterjet, and oxyfuel cutting machines.
Major Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Develop ability to service and troubleshoot all components of the company’s complex 3 and 5- axis cutting machines including, but not limited to, chassis, frames, rails, bridge, tool carriages, mechanized motion systems, and other integrated components.
- Train customers’ machine operators on machine use and general maintenance procedures.
- Provide best-in-class service and support to company’s customers.
- Provide feedback to engineering and operation teams on error modes identified in during service calls with customers.
- Document parts wear and tear for better understanding of part life cycles.
- Provide proactive maintenance advice to customers to enhance cutting machine reliability.
- Assist customers with troubleshooting and problem solving related to mechanical components and support systems of the company’s cutting machines via phone when not traveling.
- Help with machine assembly and electrical component building when needed.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ automation experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Above-average understanding of electrical circuitry, drives, motors, and automation controls.
- Ability to travel up to 75% or more of the time.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record (MVR) acceptable to the Company’s driver’s insurance underwriters.
- Satisfactorily pass a background check
- Pass a drug screening.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Minimum 2 years’ automation experience; 5 years’ preferred.
- Experience with plasma machining and troubleshooting and repair of plasma cutting machines.
- Experience in servicing mechanized systems which utilize PLC or similar control software desired.
- Experience providing on-site and phone support desired.
- Proven ability to communicate complex concepts independently and effectively to customers or other team members.
- Ability to efficiently manage and maintain schedule.
- Positive attitude.
- Excellent customer-facing skills, including adaptability, empathy, patience, self-control, clear communication skills, effective listening, and taking responsibility.
- Ability to work efficiently and with integrity and respect in both independently and in a team environment.
Role Expectations
- Work at least 40 hours per weeks with a varying daytime schedule, providing service both in-house and on-site with 75% or more travel required.
- Preform work in accordance with the Company’s quality system.
- Complete assigned preventative maintenance and service assignments on time and to the specifications or other designed requirements.
- Meet the needs of internal and external customers.
- Maintain and foster a team environment, by helping other team members meet their objectives, and being on-time and ready to perform scheduled and assigned roles responsibly.
- Look for opportunities for methods of continuous improvement.
- Guide each customer’s service experience well, from start to finish.
- Provide clear and impeccable communication with customers and internal employees.
- Maintain a flexible schedule that will require in-office support days and on-site service, as well as travel on a moment’s notice.
Hours
- Per customer needs and schedule Monday-Friday
- Overtime, as required/needed on evenings and some weekends
- In-house service days are 7:00 AM-4:00 PM, 7:30 AM-4:30 PM, or 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
PAY
- This is a salary, non-exempt position.
- $47,000-$52,000/year salary
- Overtime at the DOL flex workweek calculation
