What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equine Specialist position at Horse and Soul Counseling?
This person must have a great appreciation for horses and a working knowledge of horse behaviors. Key characteristics of an Equine Specialist would be having a patient, calm, and compassionate personality who wants to serve others who may have trauma or other mental health needs. They will be able to do this by integrating their horse knowledge by reading the cue's of horse behaviors in counseling sessions. A basic knowledge about animal science, equine health, and an expert in horse care is a must. Alternative education in equine science and/or the mental health related field is preferred.
This person will be apart of a 2-person team and work with a licensed therapist to conduct equine assisted psychotherapeutic sessions. Therefore, We operate under the EAGALA model and would like someone who is willing to be EAGALA certified or have another ceritifcation in place with doing equine therapy. In addition, to participating in therapeutic sessions you will be required to complete equine care each day you are at work. This may include but is not limited to grooming, basic desensitizing and training needs, care of the facility in regards to the horses, and additional tasks related to the equines used in the program.
This person will be considered a private contractor and is required to carry their own Equine Liability Insurance and will have to complete a background check. We are looking for someone who can work up to 15-20 hours per week. We want a highly motivated and innovative individual who wants to be apart of the growth of this program.

- Horse: 5 years (Required)
- Farm & Ranch Occupations: 1 year (Preferred)
